5* Thanos and Phoenix Bug

Hi,

If Phoenix dies due to 5* Thanos passive, she does not create a countdown tile to revive. Can you fix this?

I believe the bug also exists with 3* Thanos (passive not firing during your own turn - would need to check with Sentry too). There are also conditions when Thanos’ passive fails to fire off, I believe its when another passive triggers. Pretty sure Thanos fails to trigger if an enemy is downed by a match 5 with Phoenix.

If Phoenix is dying from damage due to damage from Thanos on her team, then this is working as intended. Damage to self (such as Are’s “Sunder”, 4* Iron Man’s “Overdrive”, and a number of other skills) and damage to allies from skills such as Thanos’ “Court Death”, Sentry’s “Supernova” or “World Rupture”, Hulk’s “Anger”, and Carnage’s “Symbiote Scythes” does not behave the same way as damage inflicted by enemies.

“Friendly” damage:

  • is not increased by strike tiles on either side
  • is not reduced by protect tiles on either side
  • and does not trigger an ally’s reaction abilities

In this case, just as Carnage Or Sentry can’t get 3* Captain Marvel to generate red damage when they hurt their allies, Phoenix does not have the opportunity to return to life when one of her allies knocks her out.

This is a bit disapointing as Phoenix is my second best 5*, so I run her with Thanos to try to mitigate the damage.

It does make sense though… similar to how passives (generally) don’t trigger Court Death as well.

Thanks for the clear, concise explination as to why it’s not working, I was about to file a bug report.

Phoenix is different because her passive fires based on being downed, not receiving damage. Unless they are explicitly changing her ability, the reason its not working is due to a bug and not because it is the intended behavior. This same bug more than likely affects 5* Hulk as well.

Multiple passives can’t fire at the same time (which is the bug), that’s why there are instances of Turn to Smoke not working if the goon is downed by Thanos’ passive or after Phoenix makes a match 5. If Phoenix is downed by an enemy Thanos’ passive she will also not trigger.

So you’re saying that when Thanos was released and Ashes worked with Court Death, THAT was the bug. Is that what you’re saying?

If it worked with friendly Court Death, yes. Brigby took this question to the devs a couple months ago (I forget which thread has this confirmed, sorry) and that was their answer.
