The messages in the alliance chat get cleared every time I start the game. I’m on steam.

There is a mpq chat service site. Whenever there is a slight network glitch (anywhere on the internet) it will load up blank. In some cases I have gotten it to pulse symbols, other times it is blank. This is a bug. It is related to a few other bugs. Like stuck at 42% while loading.
If you didn’t know there were issues with Amazon Web services today.

We have the same problems since I posted a %-Symbol in the chat. At least I think it has to do something with this post, since this happened directly after. Customer support said, it’s a known issue and will be fixed in one of the upcoming patches, which is quite unsatisfying, because we cannot use our alliance chat at the moment. :s

Chat was out for like a week?

After it happened i flooded the chat with messages. I have no idea if that helped. But I thought if it was related to what @AndrewThinkman posted (% symbol in chat), maybe if it gets pushed out to out of the recent messages range it can fix the problem.

Just wanted to follow up on this.
It seems somehow a message “goes bad” (invalid/weird character DeNappa mentioned)
It causes all of the chat to be empty.

Abmoraz over in Discord was able to fix the problem by forcing the “bad chat/post” to eventually fall off the list, by typing 20+ simple messages:

Test 3
etc.

This suggests that the chat box is smart and interpreting character sequences ( 8-rightbracket makes a smiley face type thing) that would allow players to bold, italic text etc. Some of those sequences mean ‘clear box’ and someone likely typed that in by accident as part of a message.

There was a post by another person during the “forum migration” (therfore lost) that said they typed in:

Approximately 50 times, and then chat started to work for them. Doing that, flushed the “bad” message out of chat. I know of 4 instances of “blank chats” where spamming it with simple messages, fixed it.

I have confirmed that this issue is in fact caused by a symbol.

Steps to reproduce the bug (I don’t suggest that you do)

  1. Open up Alliance chat
  2. Type in “Hello”
  3. Close MPQ (don’t just pause it)
  4. Open the app and see “Hello” is still in chat.
  5. Type in non-alpha numeric symbols like ! @ # $ % ^ & { \ / | : > etc.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 until chat is completely empty when you open it up. (like the first picture in this thread)

To fix your chat, type in an alpha number character (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) on 50 separate lines.

No I didn’t identify the exact character(s). Because I have better things to do than open and close the app 50 times.
I can tell you I used a standard/default English keyboard layout on iPhone.
I only used the “shift numeric” and the symbols layout and typed in bunch random symbols.

Edit: Thanks Grantosium Verified type in a single “%” (minus the quotes) in chat, and it will break group chat.

Last I heard, the team may have located the cause of this issue and are working on a fix (if they have found it)

This does seem to have been worse lately. Our alliance believe that the % symbol has become a problem when it previously was not.
