No luck from the ‘free’ tokens in Thick as Thieves and i didn’t want to spend HP for a chance and certainly not 500 CP (which i don’t even have, so…)

Same. But I can’t support these business tactics. It doesn’t matter though. Just based on chatter here and on Line (probably Discord and Reddit too), the amount of 10s and 40s being purchased is WAY higher than normal. So a win for the developers despite an unhappy customer base.
My guess is they do this HP acquisition method again but don’t make the 5* character essential right away. That way they can see if people are busting HP hoards just to chase the new 5 or if they are doing so because they’re essential. Of course the biggest variable they won’t take into consideration is the quality of the 5* character.
For example, they assumed that releasing characters with feeders dried up spending and encouraged hoarding, but all the characters released with feeders sucked (was it Carol, Wasp and Loki? Okay Loki is decent). Release Iceman, Professor, Thor, Hela, Kitty, etc. with feeders and I bet people will/would have spend/spent because those characters are well designed and worth chasing.
Really, you don’t need to do all the A/B testings and switching things on the fly with no roadmap or communication, or shady business practices.
I’ll tell you how to get people to spend. Give them stuff worth spending on. If you create good characters, people will chase them. Create meh or trash characters and people will be more apt to sit on their resources. Try to make it even harder for people who already devote a ton of time and/or money to this game to progress, and you risk people quitting, ceasing spending, and bad press.
4 people in my PvE bracket have one. The line of demarcation is clear in the leaderboard.
Don’t have him and with Anniversary on the horizon I’d rather hoard my hp for 10 packs in the Anniversary vault.

0.4% translates to approx 700-1000 by my estimate, at the outside, among the people who play SCL 7-9.
My bracket was rather fresh, it’s up to a whole 10 people out of 317 thus far.

Nah and not going to chase him, Feels like this is the devs way to try and suck HP out of the economy prior to anniversary vaults so people need to buy more HP for them.

This is one of those times I wish trading covers was a thing. I am just on the verge of starting the 5* transition, and I pulled two of him out of the vault, one from a 10 pack (I pulled 3 daily 10s) and one from PvE tokens/daily singles. I would be thrilled to trade an alliance mate one of him for a couple of Kitty/Thor/Okoye champ covers.
18 in mine have one. I’m not pulling more than progression in these vaults with Prof X, though.
With those tough odds, I’ve only tried via single cover daily deals.
I don’t have him for pve, but at least most of my bracket doesn’t either.
