So I just noticed that the event ends in 22 hours (ish), despite the boss health being over 50% still.
Normally I don’t mind, except I am still several hundred points short of progression.
This has me wondering, Is it even possible to get full progression before the event ends? I know I am far from perfect, but I still feel like I should be a bit closer to the end.
I was wondering that too. My team is at 47% boss health (boss hp doesn’t really matter to me) but the invididual rewards I believe only has a total of 650-700 possible points right now. Seems a bit of a reach to think you could get to 1000 in less than a day.
I’ve lost to Azor, Azor’s Gate, Etali, and Beckett. I had the game freeze against Elenda. If you were to add in the points from those five losses and the couple of secondaries I haven’t gotten I’d be nearing 900.
Getting perfect would get you ~1100 by the end of the event. That’s a ridiculously low margin of error for just another pack. Especially because the event could potentially end early, though it almost certainly won’t this time.
I’d been wondering if it was even possible to get full progression before the event ends. Having lost once to Elenda and once to Azor’s Gateway along with not being bothered to meet certain secondary objectives, I’m starting to think it’s not. Currently sitting at a score of 661, with just a couple refreshes left for the event.
I like that progression lasts long into the event, but it would be nice if it were still more achievable, or if it is supposed to be harder, if they brought back the random RIX rare as a reward for getting there.
By the looks to get progression you need to win everything plus at least some of the requirements.
That’s not what progression is meant to mean.
Many people rely on progression since they have zero chance of their coalition placing high, and that has been fine when they could choose to play to progression and then stop and have a rest if they felt like it, but when progression is SO gruelling it’s a problem.
I think progression should end up tiered anyway, but this one is too high even for platinum.
For this event I’d prefer something like:
800 platinum
700 gold
600 silver
500 bronze
(And bronze is still really working to get that given their greatly smaller card pools, and since they are usually given Origins rewards still, where are they meant to get the tribal cards to actually do the harder objectives to hit progression to win a single Rivals pack to make it easier for them to get it next time? Bronze needs access to the current sets especially when the events are built around them.)
My perception of the high requirement for max progression was that it gave people something individual to aim for. A welcome contrast to events that maxed rewards at 600 but left people at 1400 or higher at completion for coalition points. There are a lot of rewards in this event, if you don’t finish you’re not really losing, as much as you’re gaining.
To clarify, they could have stopped rewards at the 700 mark, dropped some of the runes or such and made it easy for everyone to get all the things. All that accomplishes is making the dedicated players feel obligated to keep going for no personal gain.
Not obtaining an 80 crystal pack isn’t the world being unfair, it’s more giving people something to work toward. This type of complaint is no different than if people came to complain that they didn’t get special stuff for playing above max score.
Do your best, have fun, and learn the event. If you miss it this time around so be it, gives you something to strive for next go around.
I disagree, I think full progression should require a very high score. But it shouldn’t require a perfect score (or at least a perfect score should give a better reward).
I’m all for events where it takes a lot of wins and secondaries to get progression, such as Emrakul’s Corruption or the Oath of the Gatewatch events.
When I posted this I wasn’t even sure if a perfect score would be enough, which is a serious problem.
Not its still a problem, just less serious. Another day (~3 more charges per node) would probably be perfect with the current structure
Full score is 1110. The base scores can get you to 860 if you win every match. You have to pick up a lot of the optionals to get to 1000. I’m OK with a stretch goal. I think 1000 should get you the magic card though instead of giving it to the top 10 coalitions.
My concern is that there is no other way for people to get the Rivals packs they need to do better if things are set up this way. Have you looked at the Bronze reward structure recently? In every single thing except Across Ixalan (which is designed well prizewise) you only get Origins until the final reward.
Across Ixalan you get the important thing first and the rest is just a bonus.
Other progression rewards need to be the same, especially if people aren’t intended to always get to the end.
If the first pack reward for this was Rivals for bronze and the last one Origins, that’d be fine, people could play up to Rivals and hopefully get a card to help with the tribal stuff that would help them continue the event and get further.
But there is no other actual way for Bronze to get a Rivals pack with gold crystals which they also hardly get any of. And at the moment they are expected to win every fight and get a lot of the requirements on fights they have never seen before and don’t get even a practise run at. (And with this one platinum players are having trouble completely avoiding losses)
Now… It’s possible to do incredible things with a limited collection but not without trial and error, not without getting a chance to test things.
The issue isn’t that just 1 thing is against Bronze, it’s that everything is stacked against them, they need to be given help and encouragement that things will get better for them if they persevere, we don’t want them to give up, but putting the one reward they actually need at the end of something they have (almost) zero chance of getting… That’s just poking them in the eye.
So either lower progression for Bronze a lot or put their important rewards first. The stuff they need should be attainable, currently it’s not, not by any reasonably standard of thought.
Yeah, if they’re going to make the last progression reward so hard to get, it should definitely be more worth the effort. Maybe swap the last two rewards, and boost the amount of jewels? Even 900 might be a bit much for the last pack, 850 would be reasonable.
Platinum and tapped out at 501. Too much of a slog. Hope bronze players didn’t get frustrated and quit–this event did not take them into consideration at all. You need powerful cards and I sure did rely on them.
Basically, getting 1000 points here requires you to get perfect all the time. With craps like Elenda and Gateway, unfortunately that just won’t happen. And that is also by playing every single node every single day.
The problem here to me is less the duration, but more the insane progression goals. I’m tempted to accuse Oktagon of learning what Hibernum had done well and screwing that to high heavens…
Well that was feel-bad. Not in a top coalition, so I wrote off all coalition rewards. I need more RIX cards, so I’ve been going for the 1000 goal, but of course the event ends while I’m less than 100 shy of full progression. What a bummer.
I was close to 1000, but didn’t finish it. To be fair, I found it a good challenge and am not too disappointed. Sorry if I’m not being negative enough…
I’m not complaining about the challenge, I completely agree it was fun and interesting. I just wish I had more time so that I could get full progression. Needing 1000 out of 1100 is a bit much, should be 1000 out of 1500 or something.
Totally agree, I liked the direction of the event and the inherent challenge. But with a completely new event full of challenging unknowns, some consideration for those of us likely to drop a couple matchups would have been nice.
