Can we please Retire EO

Is it finally time to put Emery’s Optimization (EO) out to pasture? This event has been in the rotation for so long that most of us could probably play it in our sleep.

I think that one of the reasons they rerun old events (programmed by previous dev teams) like Emergency ordinances is because they aren’t very good at making new events.

Most new events (terrasymbiosis, whatever the Easter event was meant to be) are bugged to some degree and, the ones that aren’t bugged are nearly universally despised (lorwyn 5, I’m looking at you!)

Where are the dual decks? I’d love to see some of those matches make a comeback.

I think there are still quite a few Duel Decks exclusive prize cards that nobody has had the chance to earn all of because the events haven’t run enough times, aren’t there?

Hey, folks!

On Duel Decks, we’re already analyzing their role in the event rotations and what adjustments may be needed.

Now, on Emergency Ordinances, the feedback has been noted. However, we also take into consideration the engagement with the events and the variety we can offer.
Are there any aspects of this event that are particularly bad (like some objectives or mechanics) that shouldn’t be repeated or good that should be used in new events?

I’m not really sure what you are aiming at here. EO doesn’t run that often at all. If your argument is “it has been in rotation for so long”, you could probably retire more than half of the events. Some pros regarding this event:

  • It is one of the few legacy events left. There are people that like to play with more than just their standard cards.
  • x2 damage. Fast matches. Some events are (also due to their objectives) a real slog, where matches can take up to 10 minutes easily or more. The fast pace of EO is very much welcomed.
  • It’s an optional event; if you don’t like it, don’t play it.

It’s a bit of a long event… getting all the crystals out of the progression ladder is 12 games, and I wonder what % of players who join go on to play all 32 games…

I’m not one of them playing all 32 games. That’s way too much. If that would have been the argument, then I would have agreed. That’s why I only play until the 80 ribbon progression; netting as much as gold as I can and usually getting another 15 from the individual ranking. Max reward for minimal investment.

Always nice to see you interacting with players @Magic_PQ_Support_Team thanks for the insight about event scheduling.

EO is a decent-enough event and I don’t mind skipping it if I’m not in the mood or don’t have time. It’s nice to revisit some of the old mechanics in legacy with new cards from PM2.

Much like coalition events, Duel decks are a great way to take advantage of the collaborative nature of the community to build excitement and drive engagement. It’s a shame to waste that potential!

I can see both sides here. Yes, legacy is a nice change of pace and an oppertunity to dust off some powerful legacy decks again. Plus it’s completely optional.

On the other hand it’s very time consuming. Having 32 matches for a full playthrough is something from a time where the event schedule wasn’t as full as it’s now. Even a fast format as this still takes up a lot of time.

I personally skip almost no events, but if I do then it’s an event with a high number of matches. I skipped this last EO too, for the same reason. No time to play all matches? Skip.

I would propose to keep these events in rotation, but make them shorter.

I too only play the 80 ribbons and quit. There’s too much that can go wrong to bother going farther.
