Com Link Disrupted Message - 8/3

YAY, got my deadpool and hood cover, I am happy.. icon_e_smile.gif

I’m pretty sure “they” don’t hate an entire continent of 50ish countries. Deep breathing exercises may help you in your overenthusiastic ire. Breathe, Darthmaven, breathe.

Thank you for the message, next time can we get a message 10 minutes before the servers go down, that would be helpful. Preferably narrated by a heavily accented scotsman saying " I cannae hold her anymoor capten, she’s gointa blow!! "

Yes their game is offered globally, but with a FTP base and still a small support team, tinykitty happens. As much as we love it this is not WoW or LoL not even close, expecting the same level of server medic response time as one of the giants is unrealistic. They are in no way trying to inconvenience you personally and are likely losing money every minute the servers are down so they really don’t need us throwing a tantrum telling them to fix it, they know.

The giants simply don’t have these kind of issues as often as MPQ does. Also, if Demiurge/D3P know, they don’t act like they do. They act as if they’re completely unprepared for the influx of players. I agree communication has been better during this incident, but it’s still nowhere near decent.

Ofc they have same issues. Naxxramas killed Hearthstone servers, LoL EU servers are constantly screwed. Difference is that losing one fight there and being unable to play for few hours doesnt matter so much, same thing here means you can lose much more, not only individual rewards but also alliance rewards, or even season rewards.

Naxx Hearthstone, the old server wide events on WoW (especially Gates of Ahn’Qiraj - which was magnificent while it worked), Sim City… a lot of games have events that cause them to melt down because it simply isn’t viable to up-scale capacity for short bursts when 99% of the time you’ve got normal traffic.

Still, it only seems like common sense to have PvE and PvP events at least 12 hours seperate in terms of end times and (even better) staggered event finish times to spread the load.

They’ve already adjusted end times slightly to help with the server load. I’m certain this is why PvP end times moved by an hour while PvE end times were unchanged.

If you want my opinion, one of the biggest issues with this game is how dependent all events are on end time. For an event with unprecedented player engagement like this one had, it will always be difficult to know whether you’ve got enough resources to handle the load.

In this case, their systems failed catastrophically. Normally an hour after one event ends should be more than enough time for things to return to normal for the next event ending.

To expand on this: the structure of competition in MPQ is a race not to a finish line, but to see how far you can get before the end time is reached. As such, people will scramble at the very end to get ahead of just a few more players, because they can see the countdown clock. Of course, so can everyone else. This mode of competition is very hard on both players and back end systems.

What’s the solution? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily think this mode of competition needs to be scrapped completely, but I’d love to see them mix it up with totally new styles of competition.

I may be wrong but their model relies on the last minute push with people burning through shields to get an advantage over someone else. There are many ways they could change things to improve QOL for the players but the frenzy at the end is probably their best friend and they wont make any changes that would affect that.

Just curious, what do you “see” that I don’t that tells you they weren’t working to fix it during that time? Were you somehow magically able to watch the techs work? Were you somehow able to magically see the error logs and server dump files and know that it was an easy fix and they were just having a laugh at our expense? Were you somehow able to magically see that IceX was awake at midnight on a Sunday and not at home X minutes away from work, but at the office pranking his customers?

No?

Mod Edit: Removing the insults. FYI, making a childish insult and then calling them a petulant child rings a little hollow from the high horse perspective.

I’d just like some compensation for the outages that we have to endure. Espscially when they cause me to not finish top 5 like this one did. I was in 6th place by under 20 points, had a fully healed UDaken, Sentry, and LThor, and plenty of boosts to take me to 2nd or 3rd.

Well, here we go again?

Ha ha. Good luck finding an attorney that specializes in getting compensation for unprovably and hypothetically lost virtual objects in a free game, drama queen.

Lol down again!! Almost the same time as last night! icon_lol.gif

At least it’s not the server load then, is it? Only one event at the moment not counting the simulator.

This is getting ridiculous. 2 days in a row? Almost exactly 24hours later. When is the server failure issue going to be a thing of the past.

Perhaps they just entered the code to send all the compensation tokens and their hamster died laughing…

…aaaand the game is down again. Does being right allow me a little bit of leverage in being “a petulant child” ? icon_e_smile.gif

I’m an attorney. I was busy pursuing compensation for provable lost money when my case took me to the hinterlands of Oklahoma. After top tens in three straight subs, I was confident that some evening post-trial game time would see me a few Captain Marvel and Hood covers richer. Imagine my horror at discovering that we were staying in a state park lodge so far into the mountains that there was no cell coverage for three days! At least when D3’s servers go down, it is for everyone.

I couldn’t represent Darthmaven due to conflicts of interest. My 45 roster slots and I LOVE true healing!

What if the compensation tokens did this, and they’ll just decide to prevent further crashes by not distributing ANY compensation ever again?
Wait, that’s not as far fetched as it sounds…
