I’m not sure but aren’t gems converted into a crystalized form supposed to give you mana no matter what color the matched gems has?
In AJTH the Phyrexian compleation (Yawgmoths perfection) any type of match with a crystalized gem resulted in just 1 loyalty. I seem to recall that I got mana like a normal swap when the mechanic was introduced.
My PW was Tezzeret, Betrayer of flesh.
