What kind of scores are you putting up to finish in the top 10? Are you using a lot of shields to get there? Your roster is significantly weaker than what I’d normally see in a top 10.
We’ve seen players with pretty low level rosters finish that high in the past, but it takes a TON of coordination and a lot of politics to get there.
Judged to be at or a bit above your own level, based on the average of your top toons (6 or so of them), disregarding boosts
above your point level, to offer you more points, and to grow the overall slice points so that more people can score higher
are unshielded
As far as when to join and see more variety/weaker opponents… if you join immediately, you will see seed (NPC) teams which are there to help new players to the slice gain points and not take any from other players, aka grow the total number of points in the slice. So that’s a thing.
Once you get going past them you will probably (ok, maybe it’s more like “you might”) see weaker teams at low points, then you will definitely start seeing more of the meta or strong teams all the way to the end.
In general the only people who are shielding before the final 24 hours of the event are those people who are trying hard for placement so it’s possible you would see a bit more weaker/non meta teams in the first day and half but once you are climbing up a bit (400 or 500, maybe) they will probably mostly be too low to be seen by you because everyone will hit them (no one likes hitting meta teams, generally, if they can avoid it - unless they are chasing specific players or trying to maximize points earned per match which likely means fighting harder teams).
The game has been around for a very long time and the best teams are easy enough to get that most veterans who are trying hard for anything like T25, even, in pvp are going to have some level or variety of the meta to run and use so they lose fewer points.
If your goal is t10 you are stuck chasing down meta teams, or ones with strong levels. You aren’t skirting those players who have been here for a decade give or take who just keep playing with their giant rosters. You need to grind and grind and grind to make your roster competitive.
In a way the game is like the MCU, it achieved remarkable success but peaked years ago. It keeps going because of older fans who keep showing up but the heyday is long passed and newer fans have a large hill to climb to catch up.
It’d be nice if this was true (and it’s the way things SHOULD work), but it’s not. I lose to brand new players with low level rosters all the time. There is no hill to climb.
No, just followed along the last wave a bit. And endured his team getting beaten by other randoms. They just shielded before him and he made t5 with somewhere in the 1300s. 500 points back, but deserted enough.
Yeah I am just learning about the concept of going into other slices.. honestly I am (for this moment anyway) 1st in my medusa event, I hadnt shielded at all so was bouncing around 600-700, and then just made a push today and kept going, and I stopped getting hit back at some point, and like most of the top 10-15 were shielded, and just 1shot enough 8-10 pointers (no hawkeye needed) that I am at 1200.
With the Karnak one, another one where I was able to do alright with ManThing (I also having him using a 4* pizzadog for that extra crit multiplier). The few times I tried shield hopping I failed miserably lol. Definitely took too long. I’ve learned to put 2-3 crits together to hit for like 200k when I can, which certainly speeds things up.
So maybe in the 1st slice I wont be able to speed ahead of the retals, but I think I am in slice 2 for medusa?
ANYWAY – sounds like I am punching way over my weight and probably too focused on the placement, so I will chill out (or try to). Thanks all for the discussion
I’m not really sure what point you think you’re making here?
Are we really comparing the “investment” of new players using Hawkeye, who is a 1 star with covers that are thrown at players like candy to a decade and a half deep roster of 550’s that are rendered obsolete by that 1 single character ???
You’re on the right track, and if you keep working on your roster you’ll end up top 10 much more consistently. You’re doing the right stuff but your roster isn’t there yet, and that’s ok. Work on building up the “meta” guys, then do what you’re doing using them.
Yep, “investment” and it’s a 1 that you get for doing the first prologue fight. We definitely need to respect the 10 seconds of player time invested into earning him!
There is? I mean, I remember months long tantrums but not by the people calling for nerfs but by the “my character shouldn’t be nerfed because it allows me to punch up” crowd who said the same thing about mthor, Polaris, worthy cap, bishop, side winder, etc. and are now saying the same of Hawkeye.
The last tantrum I remember from actual top PvP players was gambit, and maybe chasm to a much smaller degree, and that has definitely never applied to EB. He was one of the first campaigning to nerf gambit and he’s always been Pretty clear that no one should invest in anything in this game because they can nerf at any time, and have shown repeatedly that they will, even with characters people invested in for years that were heavily featured in fan fav deals.
I fully expect Hawkeye will be nerfed, and it should be one the least controversial investment wise. All any one has done is maybe grind PvP for 1 star covers and maybe dropped 20 bucks one time for an already 5 star ascended version.
For that to be true, most of his arguments shouldn’t revolve around “I don’t like it when newer players can win because I’ve invested x time and x money to build my roster of obscure characters that I like using”
I don’t think he’s actually said that, the non skewed version was that a 1 star shouldn’t be able to go infinite and beat a maxed out 5 star, which seems like an extremely reasonable view
This guy just makes stuff up. I’m not sure why he’s decided he’s got it in for me in particular. The only comments he makes on here are responding to every post I make.
