Does pvp ever get better for the mid level player?

Once they nerf Hawkeye this won’t be a problem.

Use an actual team from the boosted characters list? No, CHEESE!

If they give Hawkeye the same “nerf” treatment they gave Polaris and MThor, he gonna be even better.

What level is your Quantum Realm at? R4 R5?

Just 3, so we’re at like 47% but woof always feels way less

Take your six 550 juggernauts out of your eyes and read the post again

I actually thought those nerfs were decent. Both characters are still useful, they just got taken down a peg. They definitely didn’t get better!

I have no idea how they do that kind of change to Hawkeye though.

Do you have any PvP team you can use that isn’t so completely dependent on your support working that if it doesn’t you won’t even attempt to try and still win?

I hate the rare times when all of my opponents supports go off and none of mine do, but I can still usually pull out the win, it will just take longer and I’ll have to use health packs after.

Yeah haven’t you seen all the super OP meta-slave characters that generate their own AP at battle start to get a winfinite or one-turn kills? Supports are fine, they aren’t the problem here at allllllll

supports are the only thing making anything other than Sam/jugg playable.

What do you think of as a mid level player?

I spent about 20 months soft capping my team in the 300s. If I was lucky I might get around 8 nodes in to a PvP before running out of targets I didn’t have to winfinite to beat. There are, I guess, limited players in that transitional stage before you have to punch up or fight the broken meta.

It doesn’t really change that much when you stop soft capping either. You might occasionally get a player who is running a pair of non meta 455s but it’s mostly the same 2 or 3 meta teams you play against. Frankie/May demand that you either win turn 1 or drain all their AP, Sam/Juggs require you to instantly down one of them or take massive damage and hope to finish by turn 3, almost any team with ascended Namor and 3a4 May requires you to run Juggs if you’re not downing them turn 1.

Best advice I can give is build around Multiple Man and Krakoa if you want guaranteed AP on turn 1. Multiple Man with Cuckoos, Daredevil 4 with Cart and any mutant villain with Krakoa (I like to use Archangel but Magik3 or Onslaught are also good choices) will beat almost anything without the RNG dependence. If you’re not also taking AP boosts it usually takes 2-3 turns but Daredevil heals the team and you’ll usually KO one or two enemies turn 1 meaning you don’t get 1 shotted.

You make it so he can only fire his 2 abilities in succession a couple of times, before his weak human ash has to run around picking up those arrows he shot.

All 5 meta teams have a decent amount of teams that can beat them, but they arent easy to find or remember, and Maynkie has the least good options. All of these options are also only offensive, so be prepared to take some hits.

Which team has you feeling like hawk is your only option? He is likely your best option, but we would need to see your roster to help more.

Have you tried Widows Batons?

If their Quantum Realm is at 3 star there’s a good chance their BW Batons are not at 5 star.

Yeah I know, I was just going along in the spirit of “Other products are available”. But this does demonstrate what the game is getting wrong lately - if you have no hope of beating a PvP opponent unless some exact things happen then you are probably playing above where you should be playing and the game should have helped you with that a bit more than it has.

The MMR has been the same,as far as I can tell, for about 8-10 years or so. Ever since they modified it to ignore characters you had not leveled up (after 5s came out etc and they had to eliminate the rostering penalty).

There are a million problems when trying to manage a matchmaking system which needs to try to skirt around people doing weird stuff but also exists in in a game with 402 characters and slow leveling.

The actual answer would probably be to recode the entire game and assign point values to champs based on levels and create an average across all your roster not just the top 6. But also the falloff in player engagement makes it hard to rebuild a truly good environment.

So to me (with zero point of reference), mid level is 1 and 2s are mostly a3, 3s fully champed, about a dozen champed 4s, missing 20 4s, 3 champed 5s and some 1a5s from the store (I realize the 1a5s bork everything). Missing 20 supports, no 5 star, most are 2-3.

I can get my 25 or 50 wins, but after about a dozen or so matches start bumping into the teams that are always generating 6-12 AP on start. At least with man thing I can take a hit or two and get going, and play for the 1-2covers from wins. Heck even if they have a hawkeye, it’s usually kinda dumb and can be tricked into going for a lame tile match (and with man thing too I can lead the enemy to lame matches).

Anyway this wasn’t so much “what do I do” since I know the answer, mostly just venting about the prevalence of starting AP supports.

Honestly getting man thing champed is the first time I feel like I can just play and not have to rely on hawkeye (to be competitive in the top 10 – so maybe I am just overestimating where I should be and the answer is “well yeah duh if you wanna be in the top 10 you need all the supports”). The teams that I am going against where I need hawkeye.. well lets look for real:

  • 610 medusa, 672 jugg, 493 purple man with 5 star refresh cart, batons, and atlantis - not even starting AP can help me here
  • 167 medusa 540 man thing 40 aunt may - obviously a gimme
  • 630 medusa 672 iron patriot 370 3a4 may, 5 star quantum, batons, and soul stone - my winfinite, or if he starts with 12 purple its over, otherwise 2-3 painful turns to get hawk going (or one if I boost AP of course)
  • same team but 672 cap america - my winfinite or if he starts with 12 yellow its over, otherwise a coin toss

This medusa pvp has been better than most, previous rounds have been like all frankie and may and immortal hulk with the leapfrog.. going against frankie is like always one turn win or retreat. Thankfully not too many frankies at the moment.

I should probably start pvp rounds later too, to get into a less competitive slice? Or is it pvp that takes opponents from whoever whenever?
