"First creature"

As long as I remember “first creature” has worked as “target”. Meaning if the spell or support targets opponent’s “first creature” and said creature has hexproof, it doesn’t work.
Avacyn just killed my Hexproof creature using Anguished Unmasking. Does “first creature” target hexproof now or it’s just this card?

First creature was never supposed to be target and now the bug was fixed.

So yeah, it’s a change to affect all hexproof

That’s a pretty huge change in the metagame to be snuck in with barely a mention in the patch notes…

Yeah. I don’t care what was intended and what wasn’t. I know how it worked. Changes like this, even if they are bugs, should always be mentioned.

They did mention it in relation to anguished unmaking, but yeah, it’s a much larger change.

I’m willing to bet they only intended it to fix anguished unmaking and it accidentally changed the game for other cards.

I have no faith in these guys when it comes to bugs vs intended gameplay mechanics anymore.

I took the patch notes to imply that Anguished Unmaking would still cast and destroy a support and skip destroying the hexproof creature where as before it wouldn’t cast at all. Good to know.

And how am I supposed to know what was the issue and how they fixed it?
If it was the old way of working it should kill the second creature. Maybe the issue was that it wasn’t killing anything but it was still dealing damage to you . I don’t know.
Changes like this should be in the patch notes!
I mean, it’s probably a nicer change, but unexpected.

Time will tell if it was intentional or not.
I think it was.
Anyways time to update my guide about this matter. icon_e_wink.gif

This was a fully intended change. Unfortunately it slipped by the patch notes - it’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a while and only were able to squeeze in with 1.7.0, and like I said it’s something that we didn’t properly communicate in the patch notes.

Essentially, Hexproof now behaves exactly like it does in Paper Magic - it makes the creature immune to effects that use the word “target”. Anything that does “First”, “Last” or “Each” will bypass Hexproof. It should be less potent now with this, which is, again, something we’ve been wanting to do for a while.

no shit, no wonder my hexproof creatures are so shitty now

It was definitely a needed change, Hexproof was far too OP before this.
