It should be very low chance to loot a dupe rare or mythic

can it really get any worse?

Sure. Great for players all around…now. But then you’ll be stuck at the current expansion unless you pay money for new cards. Do you seriously think you’ll get a 1:1 trade between expansions with free cards and an expansion where everything costs money?

This again? You play many games and draw many times. Eventually you’ll get snake eyes.

The thing is in real magic, dupes aren’t bad since you need more than 1, unlike in this game where one is all you need.

the RNG for drop rates is bad. can you admit that at least? don’t you want to see slight improvement? even if its just to make the drop rates more streamlined and a bit easier to predict and less likely to get completely hosed.

I would like to share my opinion about duplicates in general. I have been playing this game since the beginning as a casual player who have not spent a dime on cards and who got most of the cards from free boosters and events (quick battle excluded) and currently I own 829 (M31/R135/U341/C322) out of 1040 cards. Not bad someone would say and I agree because I can make a pretty decent deck for every colour I have got. The problem is however that I would like to have fun with my cards instead of having decks that beat everything and grind them every single game therefore I need new cards from time to time.

From my observation I noticed that now I get one or two new cards weekly - seems ok, but the calculation (simplified, excluding RNG, based only on my observation) does not. It means that I need at least 105,5 weeks to get the missing 211 cards. I am I patient person but 2 years!? and that is only if my happy scenario is true which is far from reality. And probably within these two years new cards will be added so it is a pointless effort. Something needs to be done about it.

The kind of reports in https://forums.505go.com/discussion/60235 are not as unlikely from straight random drops as you may think (see my reply in that thread). Uniform random drops is both by far the simplest theory (in fact, nobody’s even proposed any other concrete, testable model of how card drops are calculated), and it’s a theory which fits with all the data anyone’s gathered to date.

That said, the rest of your post still makes potentially valid points - dupes are a feel-bad when they happen, and some less random scheme could possibly be an improvement.

Giving crystals for dupes would be a little bit roundabout though; it would be kind of equivalent to boosting the drop rate, only with more player screen-taps and server load. I think d3go would be more likely to just boost the drop rate, if they thought there was a need for that.

I also don’t for example see d3go ever moving to guarantee no dupes, since that would create a small but ever-increasing pool of players who hold the entire collection of each set; this would destroy variety in the top tier competition decks, which I think would make the game seriously more boring.

i understand statistics and realize as you get more cards you will get more dupes, i accept that personaslly i wish others would but i do think getting the same card multiple times in one pack is a sign something is wrong with how they do generate the cards in a pack even baseball cards and paper magic have gotten this fixed ages ago. if i want a guarantee or a non dupe i would pay for it (hint hint) or at least would consider it depending on price otherwise i will live with the fact that i have 80% of the cards available and will get dupes dam near every time.

I like the idea of getting manacrystal.png
for duplicate mythic cards. Maybe not so much for rares though. If say there were to give 40 for each duplicate mythic and the drop rates being what they are, I don’t believe that would have a significant impact towards boosting the drop rate. If it needs to be lower than 40 that’s fine.
As far as guaranteeing that we never get a dupe i don’t think that is something D3 should do. I come from a paper MtG background and getting duplicates in this game somehow makes it a little closer to the physical game for me.

the only way i can see that they guarantee not getting a dupe is buying the mythic like baral is on sale now. rotate though some of the old mythics same price somebody will need it and some i would happily buy like mirrorpool. as fast as they are going through the expansion cards they held for event and run out give that a try i say.

I’m in favor of this idea, but still leave them in packs and just have the purchase code your account or flag it in some way so that when you personally purchase a pack, the opportunity to get a paid mythic is completely removed, but it’s still available to pull from packs for those who chose not to purchase the mythic with real currency.

dont even worry about pulling it so you dont have the chance to pull it after you buy it still random chance, that way the whiners get to whine that they spent xxx money on xxx mythic then pull it in the next free booster lol. it would cheese me but i would live and deal with it
