Liliana's Contract

It’s the new card that the player will be able to abuse while the AI will be incapable of replicating it’s effects.

Nothing more about it really, just thought this to be an interesting thing.

I was thinking the same thing–definitely a player-only mechanic, though at least it arguably provides SOME benefit to the AI, even if it can’t take advantage of the exiling portion (as opposed to, say, Drake Haven or Faith of the Devoted).

Probably not a good idea to play that card with Oath of Teferi, at least not without a plan to mitigate self-inflicted damage.

Problem: Standard is short of demon after rotation.

But combination with teferis oath looks nice with right demons

Well there’s 4 demons in Standard come Core 19; 2 from Origins, 1 from DOM, and 1 in Core.

And ya, Oath of Teferi with it could be quite dangerous.

Actually there is another on in DOM, but only three are pitchable for the “players only” effect.
Except the DOM demon the other one are a little underwhelming on it’s own, if the support doesn’t show up.

Too bad we can’t do it Paper Magic style with Arcane Adaptation (since it was narrowly designed only with Ixalan in mind).

So I pulled this card and put together a wonderful demon deck, abusing Lich Mastery and Alhammeret’s Archive. Had this great idea. It was flawless.

Except… Liliana’s Contract does not work… I exiled multiple demons from my hand and… Nothing. Nothing at all. That says it best, right? I chose to differ…

Maybe it needs to be a specific demon? Or maybe an effect has to exile it? Such that exiling for free from hand wouldn’t work?

Per the card there should not be… The second part of the text does not work as is written. @Brigby

Man, Brigby is going to come back from GenCon with so many @'s

@madwren

Care to comment on this? Froggy’s saying that Contract doesn’t work as intended, but I know you put together a deck for it the other day. Did you actually test it out, and if so, was it functioning properly?

Liliana’s Contract is working fine for me. My deck uses Herald of Anguish, Ammit Eternal, Demon of Catastrophes, and Razaketh for the demons.

I mean, you have to have two demons in play for it to work, but I’m sure Froggy knew that. Perhaps LM is interfering somehow.

Anyway, I just re-tested it. Here’s a screenshot of the Battle Log after I exiled Ammit and Herald from hand.

(As an aside, for some reason clicking on the image icon and pasting the URL didn’t seem to do anything..what am I missing? I thought that would embed it)

I’ve never been able to upload any image to the forums while on mobile personally. No matter what image or where it’s from, I put the url in and nothing. I have to wait until I get to a PC to post with images.

I did the same thing with this and lich. Worked perfect. Belzerok did 17, kothoped did 14, etc.

@Froggy Could you post the full deck?
Even though I can’t test this myself I am soooooo curious about the different experiences and what else might be causing it…

Here is the deck I’ve used.

Demon of catastrophes
Demonlord Belzenlok
Kothophed
Rite of Belzenlok
AA
Rise from the Grave
Vraska’s Contempt
Infernal Reckoning
Lich’s mastery
Lili’s Contract

And yes, two demons in play.

Everything works fine with Lili’s Contract, except for that last exile part. I’ve tried with 2 and 3 demons in play, nothing. I’ve tried with the demon having no mana, as well as full mana, still nothing.

Did you try it without Lich’s Mastery in play? Though I guess Boopers said that he’s gotten it to work.

Maybe Rite of Belzenlok’s demon isn’t counting as a demon in play properly? That’s puzzling.

I can confirm that for me, at least, the demons in hand do not need mana.

Froggy: Try without Archive.

Archive always seems to do some funky stuff you’d never expect.

Wow… that is almost the EXACT deck I built to test it. I used priest of the blood rite though… another option to get a demon on board easily. And of course it’s got nice synergy with lich and A1 too. I had no issues with AA.
