What happens to all of the support shards after leveling a support to 5*?
I’ve leveled a few and have gone over by as much as a hundred shards and it never really bothered me. The last boss event I had a support favorited and I was pulling tokens and got a dupe 5* Yaro Root. I only needed about 400 shards to finish my current support. So what happened to my extra 1200?
You don’t get 1 for 1 on shard overage. Not sure how much you got but it should’ve told you after you exited the recruit heroes screen.
Unfortunately those shards got wasted.

They stay in the background forever. For example my yaro root is maxed. When I click on the shards in the rewards 3* Mephisto pvp it shows I still have 575/0. It sucks but that is how the game is programmed.
Because of this, I try not to add shards beyond 1600. The number needed to make it a 5*. My alliance does pretty well top 50 in heroic boss events so I am getting a steady stream of 4* supports. I just wait to either win them from the boss event or get it in the std support packs. If i have any advance or master tokens then I switch to one of the stones or least level supports in hopes the token pull results in a 5*.

Unfortunately, you’ve got to stay on top of your favorited support(s), even more than characters.
When you promote them to 5*, make sure they are UNfavorited, and pick a new favorite if it was your only favorited support.
Unfortunately when shard rewards pop up, that message doesn’t show you your shard count on that favorite, like it does with characters.

You had 2800 shards for Yaro Root?
Unfortunately, you’ve got to stay on top of your favorited support(s), even more than characters.
When you promote them to 5*, make sure they are UNfavorited, and pick a new favorite if it was your only favorited support.
Unfortunately when shard rewards pop up, that message doesn’t show you your shard count on that favorite, like it does with characters.
Promoting a support to 5* automatically un-bonuses it.

I am also away from my main account, could verify my wobbly memory.
I had overflowed a few supports by a bit, and that stinks … when it happens on chars, it’s inefficiency irritation in the short term, but not a waste. I can’t imagine one getting to 2800 as OP reports!

He didn’t get 2800 shards per say.
What happened is he had a R4 Yaro Root. Then was sharding it. He had 1200 of 1600 needed shards. Then he pulled a natural R5 from tokens. At that point he has 1200 wasted shards. There is nothing you can do about it.
I had a similar experience recently. I had 1580+ of 1600 needed on one of my R4 supports when I hit 400 bonus shards. All wasted. Once you start trying to move a R4 to R5 all you can do is hold your breath if you have any chance at pulling an R5 and once you cross 1200 shards you hold your breath that you don’t get the dreaded 400 shard bonus.

OH, I missed that, keyed in on the mention of 2800.
I, too, have had the surprise, lucky draw rank up a support to 5*, making a pile of shards a waste in hindsight … and in hindisght, that’s irksome … had I known the future I would have favorited something else! But the point was to get [SUPPORT] a 5th star, and it got there, that was the point.
At the moment I have 4 of them favorited. Not that that’s better … don’t have anything amazing to push and I’m constantly in want of rIso anyway. Weird but true. Spread the shards around, hope any big bonuses land where they can do most good.
Could unfavorite them at 1200/1600 … but then they’d never get done! Rather eat any waste that happens, get things done.
You can choose not to pull from the store when it features your favorited support when it’s rank 4. Especially if it’s past a certain point of shards. That way you will never pull the 5 star version of it. I’ve heard some people have taken that approach. There are other downsides to that as well of course (taking longer to complete rank 5 for example)
Is the best thing to do is to have 2 supports favorited? Would the extra shards rollover? Last time I pulled a 5* dupe and lost 1000 shards.
I was just imagining duplicate supports and what that might be like if it happened. Three fantasticars, total nightmare. Two frogs and a goo, easy skip. Boy I hope this never becomes a thing.

I have pulled several. At least 5. I don’t keep track of it. The only one I remember is pulling Hope Summers, since it was 1st ever 5* support pull. I think one was also quantum realm when it was a featured a store token in puzzle gauntlet.

Not exaggerating! I get a ton of the lowest level support tokens and open them all right away. I also typically bought the new support bundles, so they start at 3*.
I have a lot of 5* supports, but as far as I can remember they’re all from shards. I really do not ever remember pulling one from a token. Actually, looking at the tokens…they only go up to 4* anyway! How are you guys even getting the advanced and master support tokens?
I’ve pulled 3 5s recently and am sitting on a purple token. That’s why I ask. I got burned last month with a dupe and got Kamar-Taj and Korg at 5 since the puzzle gauntlet.

I have only pulled a 5 star twice and both have been from the specific support tokens from the gauntlet that are always 3 star or better, all my other 5’s have come from shards or more recently the heroic boss events.
No, there’s no “rollover”. Nice fantasy, tho. Any excess just goes down the shardhole. Just be happy you finished ranking another one.

I’ve never even pulled a 5* from one of the special tokens! The rates are so crazy low on all the support tokens that I just treat them as bonus shard factories.
