After an update several months ago, creature tokens no longer count for “summon x creature” objectives, however the verbiage on your spells, I’ll use Not Forgotten as an example, still says “Summon 2 1/1 white Spirit tokens with flying” leading to ongoing issues for players not understanding the change.
Please update the text of these spells and abilities to be clearer for newer players, and players transitioning form paper magic for more consistency. So in the case of Not Forgotten it would instead say “Put 2 1/1 white Spirit tokens with flying onto the battlefield”. This would be the same wording already used in paper magic, and would no longer have the term summon on the card, eliminating that confusion.
Alternatively, instead of having the objective say “Summon X or less/more Y creatures”, what about you change the word into: “Play/Cast X or less/more Y creature cards”?
Of course, having the wording streamlined to be similar to paper Magic terms would also be as neat: Drop all instances of Summon (because paper Magic doesn’t summon), use cast and create tokens instead.
I can’t agree with this enough. It’s incredibly frustrating to me that whoever writes the text for this game doesn’t seem to care to communicate precisely or consistently. It seems more like they just write down the first thing that comes into their head and put it in.
Oh! You’re right! That’s such a recent change I’d forgotten about it. This would be an even easier change and less verbose to have it say create instead of summon.
yes, cast and create should be the only two keywords related to bringing creatures out - with something like deploy the gatewatch it would just be entering the battlefield.
