To celebrate the arrival of the new awesome sauce 1* Original Spidey I thought it would be good fun to see where the forum community stands on the great “Who should be the 4* Spider-Man?” debate. Although Miles Morales seems to be the most obvious choice, this is not a “Who do you think will be the next 4* Spidey?” poll. It’s rather a “If you could choose any Spidey to be a 4* who would be your top choice?” kind of poll.
There are many versions of Spidey out there (just take a gander at the Spidey-Verse storyline) so I can’t include every version in the poll so if you choose other, please do tell who you want as the 4* version of Spidey. Also I am aware that since we have 2 Ms. Marvels it is entirely possible that we could have more versions of Spidey in a tier but let’s put that issue aside for the moment and just imagine there can be only one que Highlander theme music
And do feel free to voice any ideas you may have for your favorite version of Spidey or why you think your choice is the best!
For me superior spidey is the easy choice here, there are so many great spiderman variations but his motivations are the most compelling to me because they are so different than any other spider-hero.
Those are both fair points but I drew the line for consideration by how connected the characters were to the “Spider-Man Mythos.” While Jessica Drew and Julia Carpenter do occasionally get involved in the “Spidey-verse” so to speak, the majority of their adventures and background operates independently of it (admittedly less so for Julia Carpenter when she became Madame Web) so I feel they should be treated as separate entities, to borrow your terminology.
Spider-Gwen, on the other hand, is still very much tied to Spidey mythology, borrowing heavily from the original mythos to weave her own adventures. Perhaps she will grow independent of the original mythos and establish her own distinct universe but only time will tell.
Honestly the last thing I want D3 to do is to even consider a 4* version until 3* gets a buff, once the 4* is released they will completely sweep him under the rug because people will be so distracted by 4* spidey.
:tinfoil hat: I think IM40 will never receive buffs even though they said he is on their list for the same reason, “IM40 really sucks, oh look hulkbuster”.
…I voted for superior because I thought the idea behind him was really interesting..
I voted 2099 cuz I have always loved his costume. That being said they just redesigned it for the all new, all disappointing Marvel U after Secret Wars and I don’t care for it at all. Spidey Noir also would be neat. But truthfully it’ll probably come down to Spider Gwen and Miles. I probably would lean a little towards Gwen if that’s the case. Superior would be great but I think they’re more likely to go with a current Spidey. And Gwen is all the rage right now.
I just don’t like that there’s so many clones and other versions of my favorite hero. Spider-Man is Peter Parker to me, so i picked the symbiote version. If that’s not it, give me Peter Porker at least
Doc Ock was a good read for some time and it made sense storywise, but in the end it turned out that he is not superior but inferior instead - and he’s just not a hero. Miles is a very good read and he’d make sense as a 4* because he seems to have all of Peter’s powers plus stealth and the venom blast. Gwen is a fun gimmick for a while but not more, the same goes for most of the others…
As someone who hated both the concept and the execution of Superior Spider-Man, I’d refuse to get covers for that character on principle. Not that I get many 4* covers anyway
My vote goes to black suit Spidey. Peter Parker. The original. Still the best.
I would vote Superior Spiderman for 2 reasons. But have 3 conditions.
1.) Fix 3* first, (if you make it a 1*, OMG)
2.) Fix 2*, just make Bag-Man the FF version with white suit
3.) Make sure the 4* would still allow you to play with 3* Spiderman, but not 3* Doc-Ock
We have 3 peter parkers right now.. with Marvels, we have KK and Carol represented, it needs to be Miles, he has more abilities than Peter and many more chances at interesting mechanics.
If we’re talking any Spider-Man, then Miles would be my first choice. If we’re talking about Peter Parker Spider-Man (i.e. It counts as the same character as the other 3 existing versions and you cannot have two on the same team), I’d like to see the Captain Universe version.
IMO Superior Spider-Man should be a 4-star version of Doctor Octopus.
I hadn’t really considered that, but if they were to add the superior version you wouldn’t be able to play him alongside either of the two spiderman characters in the game or doc ock if they kept with the lore. Kinda cool.
Yep that’s true, but considering how the game system is set up in this regard, I would prefer him to replace Otto rather than Peter, since you could then have both of them on the same team and recreate some Spider-verse shenanigans.
