wondering: what does an alliance do for me?

Posting this here instead of the alliance forum because I didn’t want it to get drowned. I’ve seen this question posted all over the web but I couldn’t find any answers. So: at least as of this post date, being in an alliance does exactly TWO things for you:

1. Each time you get your daily reward, you get +10 iso for each member of your alliance who has been active “recently” (in the last day?).

2. Each time an event (PvP or PvE) ends that you participated in, your alliance gets ranked as well. Every member of your alliance (I believe) gets the reward for your alliance rank. (You may not even need to participate to get an alliance reward; I don’t know. Also I don’t know if alliances are banded like players or not, but I suspect not.)

None of these rewards are retroactive, and you must be a member at the exact moment those things happen to get a reward, although you can quit a few seconds later and it doesn’t matter. If anyone can clarify any of these points, please chime in.

So what does this mean for a new player? It means you should absolutely join any alliance you can find when starting to play (easy enough with the search function) and be sure you are in an alliance immediately before you receive your daily reward or before an event ends. Note that as a new player, you will probably get booted out almost immediately as well; I don’t know why people leave public, open alliances out there and then just boot anyone who joins, but they do. So try to join immediately before the event ends / you earn your daily reward. Also, the system is blatantly, heavily biased in favor of large alliances, so always try to join the biggest one you can find on the search list. 5 members are the default, but I think it goes up to 20 (maybe higher). Larger alliances mean higher daily rewards and better rankings.

Also, if you join an alliance and it has a terrible rank, feel free to quit and join another one. There is no penalty for leaving, and you’ll probably get booted anyway (I’m guessing most open alliances hope that a 3*, high-ranked player just stumbles in, as opposed to newbies). Try to find the best one you can as close to the event end time as possible. Or just bounce around to the largest one you can find for your daily reward.

The main thing to know is that there is zero downside to joining an alliance and you can only benefit. Lastly, alliances technically also have a chat function, but you’ll probably get booted before that makes a difference to you.

As a comander and leader of an open alliance I can add some feedback to the psot.

Even as a new player you are able to do a ton of points in the events due to scaling and the matchmaking system, that being said, if you enter an open alliance you won’t be kicked if you are an active player and contribute to the ranking of the alliance. I’ve kicked people with full 3* rosters even with fury on their roster (back when only being in a top 100 alliance got you a fury cover) due to inactivity after a couple of weeks without participating in events and stick with low lvl players because they were more than capable to contribute some points to the alliance. (I’m talking top 500 here, not high lvl ranking, but thats enough ranking to get some hps)

As a player and as a comander I’m more interested in active players, I don’t care if they have only 10 characters. Obviously a diversified roster makes you more versatile and able to participate in more events, but I’m more than happy to “rush” new players and get them some extra hps as long as they are active. I’ve had people with only 5-6 cahracters on their rosters grow. And thats maybe why I didn’t got back to top 100 and stay in around 500 as an alliance, but as long as people is more or less active and we get some extra hps/iso I’m happy with that.

To sum up, if you are a new player, as the original poster says, get in an alliance, theres no downside of being part of one. The bigger (maxed alliances has 20 members) the better usually, but if you end up in a 20 alliance that nobody plays is not worth it and not fun, so search for some alliance where people actualy play the game, and if they use the chat it will be more fun icon_e_smile.gif

Great response. I will underscore that the Hero Point rewards from decent alliance rankings (sometimes as high as the top 2500 can net you 25 HP) are a significant reason to find a group and stick around if you can. Top 1000+ alliances will absolutely do a lot for you if you can find one, and it’s nice to hear from someone who cares about activity more than rosters.

Everybody cares for points more than rosters. It’s just a lot harder to consistently score 500+ points when you haven’t even completed your 1-2* transition.

Also, alliances are not just a source of HP (very important), covers (really important) and ISO (important) but also a treasure trove of information, especially if you’re not browsing the forums daily.

Later edit - as an advice for newbies - start using that chat function ASAP. Explain why you joined and what your goals are - when you chat, you become a real person, not just a name in some list. It makes me think twice about kicking you. As an anecdote, one of our best teammembers stumbled upon us accidentally, and I was seconds away from kicking him - good thing he started typing… icon_e_smile.gif
