I know they nerf under the false veil of “this character is used too often”, but this one is a little laughable. I guess when I see a 550 chasm, a 550 omega red, and a 3a4 aunt may, that is a little nuts. But let’s be honest, the other two are still a major pain. I see 550 Sam and 550 4a5 juggs probably 4x as much as I see a team with may that is an auto skip.
Same with HE. He is great on offense with supports and the right teammates. I beat the ever living tinykitty out of him when there’s a defensive team with him on it.
So let’s be honest… This was to slow people down on offense or PVE. This wasn’t to even any playing fields, nor was it to truly encourage us to use other chars.
It is what it is. At the very least, the new devs have kept up the age old traditions from the old devs!
Any chance this could be broken down a bit more. Say PvE usage vs PvP usage?
PvE usage is like drinking at home and suddenly the government says hey, you are drinking too much so we are going to limit drinking at home in the name of public interest/safety. The whole point of PvE is that it’s a private gaming experience so whomever is used or not shouldn’t matter to anyone else and their usage.
PvP usage is like drinking in public (bars/restaurants etc) and the government says say hey, your drinking too much is causing accidents / problems (car, bike, pedestrian, bar fights etc) involving others. This is a legitimate issue that does matter to others.
Would also be curious what percentage of players have a champed Iron May vs those other characters (esp 4 star Juggs or 5 star Omega Red or did you mean the 3 star version too).
Good analogy. I agree with you wholeheartedly and would take it a step farther to make more of a division between the two. Ban some characters from being in PvP. Make some characters that are really PvP centric. PvE can be the idea of “all gas no breaks”, use any of your toys you want. PvE is a race. Nerfing this May just means they will have to make something else to sell us that speeds things up again since that’s how to gain placement….oh wait
Zero ways. It’s a game of timing and politicking for any true competitive placements for both PVE and PVP.
If they really cared about competition they’d dismantle the current system where the person that wins is the one who begs enough on socials and touches the least amount of grass.
Personally, I don’t play competitively. I know 3-4May is kind of a problem (even though I have her at 4, I don’t even use her), but 1-5HE makes it bearable because he can winfinite fairly easily, albeit very slow against boosted, unless he is boosted. Now the dev went and mess up his winfinite, effectively making it a chore to keep up. On top of that, most of the rebalance toons here are in the PvE nodes (again). The way I see it, the dev just desperately wants us to spend longer time per match.
How does this relate to PvE? You can rank high in placement without any of that. I really don’t get what you’re trying to say here.
@KGB and @SuperCarrot have the right analysis. Combined with the new Heroic modes, this is in part about people chasing new characters to speed up their PvE clearing time and spending money to achieve this. And that counts for all levels of play. Quicker clears is a universal benefit for anyone who does PvE.
I’m fine with change. Change is inevitable. I’m sad in the fact that this is the final reminder that new players aren’t in the pipeline. Someone could reasonably start this game with just 1 star offers and build from that point. It’s not gonna happen when you cut off pvp at the knees and leave people with no way to grow.
Thanks. I mean they even complain about many people using her in the dev post. They just want us to use their new toys, so they have to break/modify what we have. Eventually something similar to May will roll out since speed is the goal of PvE.
The problem isn’t in beating him, it’s that he beats any team too easily. As they said in the explanation, they don’t want him to be able to go infinite so easily.
By lose less to him, you meant get beat less by him, on defense right? I can’t imagine actually losing to a Hawkeye just by virtue of the AI’s restrictions of being totally unable to winfinite.
I was reading this thinking “no wonder my Hawkeye couldn’t feed 2 star Magneto enough purple to feed Kang’s blue in the final hours of Kang PvP”. That was the first time I tried that particular team combination. Checked in game and it doesn’t look like this has gone live yet?
Time to get screenshots of everyone so I can compare the before and afters, I suppose!
1* Spidey is only 11yrs old. And it took ascension arriving 3yrs ago to make his incredible (for a 1!) AP efficiency shine. For 8yrs he was just that other option for the one 1 you kept to do DDQ, other than Juggs.
Just sayin’.
This post … touching so many characters … all lower tier chars … that are used by people here ascended to higher tiers … with no information regarding those ascended versions … just raises a lot of questions and hackles! Incomplete information is the worst. People will project their fears into the void.
To me, 1-5HE goes winfinite means less usage of health packs + monotonous match + slugging through match (unless he’s boosted), so nerfing him supposedly pushing us to use other toons, but others are not as efficient as his current state.
Reserving judgement on this until we get the stats that matter. How can you single out 3as4 May in your post and then give zero info on where she’ll land? Or for all these where the 5star versions end up?
Their base 1 star versions don’t really matter to anyone.
