Okay, let’s try this. Since I do admire your enthusiasm, as I said, twice, let’s see if we can kick this party up a notch. There are plenty of characters that need help. As I spin the Wheel of Tinykitty Characters I find it lands on…Loki. So fine, Loki. He’s not so terrible, but he does need some help. He only has two powers, one is a crap shoot and the other is very situational, and his hit points suck.
Let’s tackle the powers he does have. Illusions is a pretty good board scrambler, can get you some nice cascades, but as I recall someone crunched the numbers and found out it’s actually statistically worse at 5 covers than it is at 3 or 4. That’s not good design. Either tweak it so it’s actually better at doing what it does at full covers or give it another little buff. One of his problems is he had no damage potential at all. What if at 5 covers Illusions also pooped out an attack tile? That might be something.
How about Trickery? Well first of all, let’s fix the bug where it doesn’t change all of Falcon’s protect tiles. It doesn’t say anything in the description about it having a limit on how many it will change and it’s a really situational power to start with. Until the enemy has strike or protect tiles out, it does exactly nothing. About the only use it gets from most people is the Patch gimmick team, and even that is more effort than it’s really worth. For starters it could be a little cheaper. If for 12 black BP can do close to 12k team damage, Trickery better damn well pull it’s weight. Maybe take the cost down to 9 at full covers? Does it need more? Maybe, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. Moving on…
Obviously he also needs a third power, and he needs to be some kind of a threat without enemy special tiles to give him a little more versatility. Well what a coincidence, his third color is green, the universal color of fuck you in MPQ. But this is still Loki. A big damage nuke doesn’t seem right for him. He’s not Thor after all. He needs something sneaky, but still good enough that it isn’t lost in the sea of better green powers. What if Punisher’s green and black had a baby and we gave it to Loki? Instead of one block of board smash, how about a few little ones, and instead of strong strike tiles it dropped some random special tiles. What are you going to get? Who knows, it’s Loki! Throw in some molotov level team damage for a reasonable cost, say 9, and there you go.
Is any of that going to make Loki a top tier character? Probably not, but it would make him infinitely more interesting and more usable in more teams. So there. I did Loki. Your turn. You mentioned some characters that have high cost powers, that’s an easy fix to suggest. But what about Bagman? What about X-Force? You didn’t specify what’s wrong with them. How would you fix them?
