Gaining points while shielded?

I am confused how that happens. It says my points went up by 17. Gave me a name of someone that attacked me.

Is it simply that I still show up as a target for them and don’t lose points; in fact, I only gain points if I win on defense?

Most likely a retaliation of a previous fight or someone who queued you up before you actually shielded. You can still gain points for defensive wins while shielded.

I see. Ok, cool.

So those are the only options? Retaliation or queuing before the shield?

You can also show up in someone’s queue normally if you’re bugged even shielded, but haven’t heard of that happening for a long time.

Yeah, unless you/your opponent encounter(s) a bug as Phantron mentioned, these are the only explanations that I can think of.
