So with Heroics starting, I thought it would be a good idea if we have a weekly team suggestion thread.
Below is the boost list for this week. Which Heroic teams can you find? Will usual clear favorites Yelena and Black Widow hold their own without Iron May abuse? Can low health Bob boost someone enough with no clear match damage character?
Do we even know that the boost list is going to match the heroic restrictions yet?
…there’s some synergy between Doc Ock and Moondragon. Split enemy special tiles to make them easier to match, then match them to make attack tiles.
That’s how it always worked in the past. And it would be really weird to force a separate unboosted list to use in Heroics.
Relatively little here is suggesting that how it worked in the past is a perfect indicator of how it will be.
Out of curiosity, and I feel like an idiot, but like what exactly IS Heroics? I feel like I’m missing a link or a post to the explanation of it. I’ve been playing since almost the beginning but can’t remember a darn thing about it. Any link to what is coming up is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Basically mpq hard mode, there will be restrictions on your roster so we cant just juggernaut the entire thing. More risk, more reward type of thing.
My take has always been “Heroics encourage rostering and developing all characters” since the game has always naturally pushed you into using the most effective 10 or so characters in general. Old Heroics were PVE only, you could only use the boost list + sub event reinforcements when playing. It wasn’t much fun as a newer player missing characters and definitely did encourage me to add folks, but otoh I am sure discouraged a bunch of players from playing those events at all back in the day.
Old Heroics did not offer any better rewards, so mothballing them took away nothing but variety since they were roster restricted versions of the campaign events.
New Heroics are interesting as they seem to be mostly trying to thread a needle of “reward people who have developed rosters broadly with some better rewards, and add challenge for those who want it, but also don’t make it seem to people without those rosters that they’re going to be falling dramatically further behind”. Also they probably want to limit the bump in rewards because they want you to still want stuff/to spend.
Heroics were created to have players use a restricted list of characters and no others. It was introduced as a replacement for PvE when it first appeared. It was not well received because in the early days of MPQ there were a lot of players who didn’t have the roster to play. For those who did it was fun trying to figure out what was best to use.
Heroics made a return a couple years ago as boss events. The boost list was so large that even though it was restricted to that list most players had the ability to play Heroic boss. Those went away for simplification post-Unity I think.
So it is likely that the new boost list for the week is the roster you will have to choose from if you want to play Heroic. Worth looking at it and thinking if your roster is broad enough to take it on.
As with all these things it would have been nice to have test events but I guess we are getting thrown in at season start. PvE seems fairly simple but PvP never had a Heroic mode in my time of remembering so no idea how this is gonna go. But not long until we find out!
Actually the first Heroic boss event locked you in to using Dark Avengers only and people were not happy. Possibly the number of 5* Dark Avengers has grown but back then I think it was basically Goblin and Yelena. I enjoyed it but it was quite tough.
Heroic PvE is definitely punishing for a narrow roster so it is at least good we have a choice if we want to play unlike previously where it was Heroic or nothing.
Having the choice will be a huge difference from the first time.
I’m looking at this boost list and thinking about the CN and 5* req node in Unstable ISO-8 which is the next PvE. Those are the nodes where you’re really going to have to be smart to beat them at their highest levels.
I wonder where the 6-stars fall in with all of this. Seems like Heroic would be just the mode to start showcasing them (eventually at least).
That was also before ascension I believe, so the only 5 star dark avengers was green goblin. Now with ascension 1a5 and 2a5 are good options
