Due to server latency issues we need to bring the game servers down for emergency maintenance to apply a fix. It was determined that this was the best course of action so that the receiving of end-of-event awards were not adversely affected.
The maintenance should begin within the next half hour and is expected to last for one hour.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Compensation for the downtime is planned. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we implement the corrections.
Interesting. Any plans for extending the event due to this hot fix maintenance or is that not really needed for the short duration (assuming no unplanned extensions)?
You really need to implement a system where you can send a chat message to all logged in users to give us a head’s up about stuff like this. Maintenance hit less than a minute after I’d started a game!
Problem is it is bed time where I live, I was constrained enough to get progression rewards as it was, but now…I lost the match in progress, my nodes will get full overnight, I’ll miss node recharges…
I know this is just another grieving story, but to me it is probably the last one.
I was waiting to get Sarkhan before quitting, for completeness sake, but even that is denied.
I work in software development, I understand many of your concerns, but the same problems happen over and over, and the game experience is really frustrating.
I have taken my time to write this because I really like this game, I love mtg, I love match3 games, this was perfect. But it is time consuming and frustrating, kinda like work, and I get paid for work, not the other way around.
So unless the planned compensation makes me cry tears of joy and get down on my knees in gratitude, blessing every time I refreshed the maintenance screen, I will be sadly moving on.
It was a pleasant surprise seeing anything here about the downtime. May i suggest to take this one step further: the next time you could send a brief message trough the coalition chat, or implement a popup window like the one with the maintenance, just with an “Ok, thanks” button on it. Either way would be fine, the emphasis is on providing the information in-game.
Well said. The main reason these issues cause such instant backlash is because we the players really love this game. But sometimes it’s like your fluffy kitty cat just clawed your eyes out.
Don’t worry about the compensation. It’ll be a pile of crystals that will hopefully lead to some pack opening “ooh!”
They’ll probably run it again but slightly altered somehow like with avacyn. Next time will be better.
Edit: game back up. No compensation. Is it just delayed somehow, or did they change their minds?
There was an in-game message about the maintenance on the Activity Hub. A push type notification would be good. Not sure we have that capability built-in but I’ll make sure and mention it. The in-game message mentioned “scheduled” because the messages are pre-made and translated into different languages. Only minor changes are possible - such as date and time.
Compensation is still planned but it’s not something that can be sent immediately. Please stay tuned for that.
Compensation is appreciated, but it’s kinda rough that we loose the battle we were in the middle of when the maintenance started. Would be great to get that back, each one counts.

It would be really weird if you guys implemented pop up chat without the ability to send mass in game messages.
Just to be sure, the event lasting only one day is something tied to it not firing yesterday and not something that will happen wich each event, right?

The framework is already in the game. Coalition chat is available as an overlay. Make a new “Administration” channel and either set the overlay as mandatory or allow people to toggle it.
So you’re saying that the game being practically inaccessible was because of this sudden maintenance? Eh.
And speaking about game latency, well, I was wondering earlier that perhaps with so MANY players trying to play the game ll the exact time frame, the server overloaded and booted out some players out of the game (by denying access).
sigh
Let me use this moment to express one AGAIN that the current Node-with-timer system seriously MUST GO. When things go wrong like this, the nodes WILL deny people full experience of play.
Not sure if the hot fix was needed due to overload from everyone trying to play at once or not. Currently the node regen timer is kept on individual’s game. I think the events should have a 60hr timer and a 48hr timer be kept on individual’s games that doesn’t start until 1st game started. This will allow all players to have a good start time for themselves. This would also require a much needed revamp of reward system that would include all ties receive the same reward instead of who gets there faster. This would also help with most of the overload that happens all at once at the beginning of the event. I know events like Avacyn might need to be handled different but I do not see how anyone could disagree with the PvP event suggestion.
Thanks for the update David
I have also lost a match I was 2 hits from winning when the maintenance message popped up,
Shame really but as long as it makes the whole experience better I will take one for the team hehe
Instead of compensation maybe just put olivia on sale again
