Important Update on Amazon Appstore Support

Following our previous update on the Amazon Appstore version of MARVEL Puzzle Quest, we want to share where things stand and what this means for affected players.

When we first shared this news, our hope was that we could still find a path forward to a fully functional Amazon version of MPQ. Since then, we’ve spent the past several months exploring possible solutions and evaluating every realistic option available to us.

Unfortunately, the situation is more complicated than a single store integration issue. As part of Unity’s changes after we updated our game to their engine, support ended for plugins that previously helped make our Amazon and Google Android builds much more interchangeable. This means updating the Amazon version is no longer a simple extension of our normal Android pipeline and now requires its own separate process. At the same time, Amazon devices tend to be lower-spec than many Android devices used by our broader player base. As the game has evolved, performance on many Amazon devices has declined to the point where they no longer reliably meet the minimum requirements for regular play.

After extensive review, we have not found a good long-term solution for all these issues and because of this, R339 will be the final Amazon Kindle release version of MARVEL Puzzle Quest. No future updates beyond R339 will be released for the Amazon Appstore version of the game. R339 will still be supported as per usual, but when the servers change over to R340 (planned early April), the R339 builds will cease to function. No other versions of the game will be impacted by this change and we’ll continue to release new builds without an Amazon version.

We know this is disappointing news for players on Amazon devices, and this was not a decision we made lightly. We’re grateful for your support and patience while we explored every possible path forward. To help affected players continue playing, we will assist with migrating accounts to a supported platform. Players will be able to move their progress to Steam, iOS, or Google Android.
