It’s time we started a fresh 2015 thread for moderators to leave comments regarding actions they have taken, issues they are keeping an eye on and for any questions they may have.
Welcome new mods!
Happy to have you join in the fun with us, Jamie Madrox and mageofshadow!
Jamie now really IS omnipotent! Welcome to the club, hopefully there’s going to be more life around here now! ![]()

That’s right! Bow before my power!
Hello Everyone,
Yeah I don’t post too much but I am a master lurker.
how could we not bow before the great Jamie Madrox? You would just hack us if we didn’t.
IT IS KNOWN.
On another note any tips for us new mods gothic?
Always wear your thick skin lol. We’re got a few boneheads (myself included ![]()
) and a green name can make you “one of them”.
Otherwise, new tabs are your friend when fighting spam.
Oh, and the most important rule of life; have some fun.
Welcome, new moderators! I’ve been declining in my moderation, but still helping out from time to time. Now that we have some fresh blood helping out, I may fade even further into the shadows.
Welcome new moderator, fight4thedream!
F4td will be helping out when time allows. Happy to have you joining us.

Welcome f4td!
Something that has been bugging me for a while is that a lot of the stickied posts with rules and such are out of date. We should probably update them and ideally have them at the top of every forum. Or maybe create one super post with all of the rules for all of the forums and post it at the top of them all.
Welcome F4TD!
I also like the idea of updating the stickied posts but my question is who would do this? I think in some cases the forum users who started them are no longer around and in the cases where they are still active forum users it would probably best to leave updating the posts to them? Just not sure how we would go about it.
I also remember reading somewhere in starks tower that some of the subs have specific mini moderators like Northern P for tips and guides and Nonce equator for character discussion. Is that still true? If it is it might be a good idea to discuss those updates with them.
If you have interest in helping update guidelines that are already posted by someone that is an active user, I would probably just PM them and talk to them. Either they’ll do it for you, or they’ll give you permission to do it (and at that point you can either edit their post or unpin theirs and make your own).
This is accurate. Riggy had Events, also, but he’s super busy with his kids these days. I feel like I’m forgetting one too, but I’ve forgotten lol.
I also have some questions about mod protocol. How much do we care about keeping posts in their specialized sections? Like keeping tips and suggestions out of general discussion etc. I have not been touching anything like that as I was not sure if thats something we should do but I thought it might be on our responsibility list.
Also is it ok to just delete spam posts? like hey buy this! posts or should I move them to the raft first? and for non spam but questionable posts they should be moved to the raft then dealt with right? I have not seen any such posts in my short time as a mod mind you I am just curious about general procedure.
I don’t tend do to this, mostly because people get fussy about you futzing with their posts. I usually only do it when it’s super obvious it shouldn’t be there - like a bug report in general.
If you find one out in the wild? Yeah, go ahead and delete it and ban the user. And yeah, The Raft is mostly used for taking about bits and pieces that might need examined. I don’t think I’ve used this once, though. HiFi checks the forums pretty habitually, so I normally just Report the post and put something like “reporting for HiFi” or “reporting for another mod, I’m on the fence on this one”. For the most part, the forum goers don’t do anything outrageous, they’re just asshats sometimes (myself included) lol.
I, on the other hand, was doing this a lot until my recent semi-retirement. If anyone took offense, I usually was able to smooth it over by explaining that I was trying to keep the forum organized, not stifle discussion. In particular, if a significant unexpected issue cropped up that I knew would cause a lot of extra threads about the same issue (like the time a PvP season ended a few hours earlier than intended), I would get very proactive about merging threads, locking them, and/or moving posts to redirect people to a single thread in bugs/suggestions to keep all the discussion in one place until D3P/Demiurge had time to respond.
You might have to don your flame retardant outfit once in a while, but I think it’s good for the forum to do this sort of organizational moderation. Just keep in mind to be communicative about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it (and don’t bother leaving shadow topics behind).
edit: The one thing some people take offense about the most is having threads moved from General to Suggestions and Feedback. Rather than avoiding doing this, I generally tried to make sure I was doing it consistently and as early as possible with a given thread, so that nobody could accuse me of playing some sort of favorites.
@AbovePost: Yeah, it’s a lot more about gut instinct and just being polite about it. We don’t really have a Bible around here.

Sent a message to user “Malorick” regarding the reported post about having two alliance threads. Sent the following;
Just checking on on something real quick. I noticed you guys are doing some restructuring, so is that why you guys created a new thread? It’s not the hugest deal in the world, but we to tend to desire each Alliance stick to one thread, just so things don’t get too cluttered.
If you have any questions or anything, feel free to let me know.
Will follow up as needed.
Awesome. Thanks for all the advice guys ![]()
