My Sincerest Apologies

Dear MTGPQ Players,

I have long opined for additional content to keep players and coalitions more engaged. I fondly remember times past when rewarding mid-week coalition events were the norm and our community was more engaged and excited about the game. I have been a proponent of daily, weekly, monthly, and lifetime achievement systems, a rewarding system for gathering runes, a worthwhile benefit to mastering cards, and yes… a midweek coalition event.

And now.. because of, or in spite of, my pleadings… we finally got a return of HoR. And oh my, what an immense turd. Now we can spend the next few days engaged in some of the worst objectives in history, with worthless boosters/rares that aren’t in standard, and the hopes of achieving a grand prize of 60 crystals for top performers and 20 jewels for top coalitions. Rewards so bad, that I would not bother even playing the event if not for the feeling of obligation to my coalition mates.

So, it is with much remorse that I beg the forgiveness of the community… and beg the developers to never again run such an event.

Sincerely,

Babar

I take the other view, which is that having a garbage event with garbage rewards is still better than having nothing at all.

At least I have a reason to log in after completing TG and Across at 10am

Do you though? The reason you don’t keep playing TG is that it’s not rewarding. Speaking of not rewarding… HoR.

Actually I don’t keep playing TG because I suffer from an inability to play games without achievements.

Once I hit progression I lose my motivation to play. Its a general issue with me (there are a lot of great games I won’t play anymore since I already got 100% completion on them).

The only reason I play the other events all the way through is for my coalition (and ranking, if I have a shot at the top still). I don’t really care about the 100 runes per win, if I really need runes I’ll grind it out no problem

The problem is not your request just the answer they have made.

Yeah, this is unacceptable.

What bothers me the most is that it’s a coalition event with Standard requirements…for Legacy cards.

Don’t cross the streams.

Yes, the same as in the last Return of the God Pharao.

Not your fault @babar3355

My only qualm is that this HoR comes at the same time as ANOTHER event, even starting at the same hour. Sure, the other event is PvE Kaladesh, but that still means that until Friday, you have a lot of events crammed in your schedule, which is annoying.

(At least I am super glad we have dropped the fully-charged node with 4-hour recharge disaster that plagued the game long, long time ago)

Oh, wait, maybe another complaint about HoR: If God Pharaoh event is any indication (I know checking shouldn’t be too hard, but…), I suspect this is yet another Amonkhet event that doesn’t allow us to use Amonkhet cards, which, IMO, is stupid.

If by requirements you mean Bonus ribbon objectives, they are not dependant on any specific cards. It’s just generic stuf like Cast x supports, take less than y damage and so on.

But it is also Enraged according to the info. Have HoR been that before?

Ive always liked HOR; so I’m happy to play it again. 2 days, 3 nodes, easy objectives.

However

I’m really not ok with getting HOU rewards for coalition events. New players depend on these events to progress in the game, for what? Cards they won’t be able to use until they get to Platinum and TotP is worth playing?

I don’t like The Dragon War.

I’d prefer The Dragon War.

They only gave us a single event with current set rewards. Then they don’t feel like running it each week so we can get those current set rewards. Genius!

I believe it’s 4 nodes.

You are correct, sir!

Easy objectives? Take 15 or less damage on the red node with enraged is certainly not easy. Do you mean, “Less tedious objectives”? Kill a lot of creatures seems tedious though. Hmm..

I’ve never had many problems with that objective. There are others in other events where I don’t do as well, but my control playstyle suits take x or less damage. I miss the objective about 10% of the time, but I play this game for fun, not for perfection.

Just because you don’t like an event or an objective doesn’t mean it doesn’t appeal to other people. I like HOR. It took my game to another level and forced me out of a box.

I’m sorry that you don’t, but that isn’t going to change my opinion of this event and it’s design.

I never intended to change anyone else’s opinion. But for those of us who are more competitively minded the objectives for HoR are notoriously difficult to manage (especially before dowsing dagger). And the prizes are underwhelming even if they were relevant… which HOU booster/rares can’t be considered relevant.

I was just shocked you said that the objectives were easy.. I definitely don’t think that is the concensus opinion and I was just looking for clarification. Which I think you gave =)

I’ve never liked the design of the event. Enraged leads to heightened stress levels. I can deal with that. The problem is that there are a lot of objectives that make you drag your feet . I don’t even really mind the take 15 or less objective. Just the fact that I have to kill 3 creatures, too . All it takes is 1 wonky turn.

My main issue with the state of things is just how phoned in everything feels right now . 2 events now with legacy rewards. The low rewards don’t really bother me , but I’ve been over that a lot lately . This event , effectively has no rewards for me and most of my coalition . It just feels like player experience doesn’t matter to the people making the game tick . I don’t really care how much effort they’re putting in because it isn’t enough. Bugs on bugs on bugs , super weak content , distinct lack of anything new. What, exactly, are they doing over at oktagon? Is this a hobby for them ? Wttk ?

I’m not a huge fan of HoR or midweek coalition events in general but for the love of God if you’re going to be begging for bigger weekday events please please please don’t run 5 node events during the week. Someone pointed out in the other HoR complaint thread that 3k brackets are draining and this is a welcome change and I completely agree.
