@Brigby this would be really appreciated. Could the dev team do a Q&A on this a blog post or stop by the forums to let us know the full scope of how mastery/level will be used? Maybe tell us about the new tier above Platinum too? @Oktagon_Daiane
“Scope creep” like this is how we ended up with such a bloated game in the first place. Let’s keep this thread focused on what was done to mastery in the last update and what, as a result, is not working. It will probably be a long thread before Brigby gets back in his office on Monday to read it.
When TDW was released, we have seen the top 5 rewards(platinum) going from 300 jewels to 220 jewels. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was anticipating this new tier to come … The new top tier having his top 5 at 300 jewels like platinum before TDW …
It is pure speculation though …
I was leveled to 41. This requires (estimated guess, based on crowd research!) around 85.000 xp. Taking the new XP values of cards, I have around 6 times that much XP, not counting partly mastered cards. I nearly have that much xp in commons alone (70k)! Since I don’t have a lot of data in the lower level, it’s within the error range.
How much XP are necessary for each level and what are the rewards?
It looks like you get :
Runes based on your level in steps of 100-125 runes (known, likely bigger steps at lower levels).
One legacy booster every second level
Gold and pinks every ten levels
Also, why were the rewards tiered, and why like they were?
The brackets take up to 13 levels (that I’m aware of), and every player received the same rewards within one group. I was lucky being 41 not 40,this granted me 15k runes, 100 gold and 20 pink extra. The player at lvl 40 received the same as the one at level 28.
This all wouldn’t be a big deal if we knew stuff upfront.
Please also explain the logic in awarding Origin packs when If I got to level 42 it’s pretty obvious I have everything already… The reward of an old pack is worthless. Reward me with a pack of the newest set, or mana crystals or better yet a card I don’t have. A reward for actually getting to where I am would be nice. not something so pathetic.
So D3/Octagon got nothing on the topic of mastering cards?
I know that you have stated that mastering is a ongoing development issue, but are you seriously going to keep the players without even some clue as to what is going to happen? Particularly since there are so many issue reported on this topic.
I’m still concerned about the not even remotely intuitive level decision. I don’t even care about the rewards, but until the doors holding the information back are open, my wallet remains closed.
So it seems safe to say that they really screwed the pooch on how they implemented the Mastery system. I know that personally, I was bummed to see how little depth there is to it. I was hoping that we’d see something that would actually give players a way to stay engaged with the game, even when there are no more nodes to work through on events.
For starters, as everyone here has stated, we need to have absolute transparency on how level progression works. It’s disgraceful that we have to freaking crowdsource amongst ourselves to fill in the gaps in our knowledge on this topic. There should be a specific section within the game that allows us to view this information. Please consider implementing a feature like this into the Player Profile page in the game, that will allow us to see the following:
The amount of XP required to progress through the levels
The rewards that we can expect to earn at each level
The number of XP required to master the different rarity tiers
Another feature that I would really like to see is a breakout of how many mastery points can be earned in a single match of whatever event the player is playing. There’s already a perfect location for including this information within the game. Each event has a “Rules” section, where you can view information about it. It shows things like whether it’s Standard or Legacy (and thus, which sets are legal) and gives a short description of the event. You can make a simple list here showing how many points your unmastered cards can earn, depending on their rarity. It’s already been determined (again by freakin crowdsourcing, COME ON guys…) that different events give different amounts of points to your cards. This is a perfect opportunity and location to offer up some transparency on this issue.
Also unclear is the number of points it takes us to master a specific card. You can already show us how many runes it takes to level up a Planeswalker to their next level, so I know there is some form of coding and graphics built into the game already. Why can’t that be repurposed and applied to individual cards? We already see experience bars for every card.
Finally, let’s talk about another way to make mastery fun. I think there should be rewards of some nature given out for completely mastering an entire set of cards. They don’t even necessarily have to be in-game currency rewards; they could be titles or avatars on the Profile, new deck slots, or even alternate art for one of our Planeswalkers. Regardless of what they are though, a player should be rewarded and recognized for taking the (now ridiculous) amount of time to master an entire set of cards. It’s frustrating that this kind of feature was completely overlooked by the dev team. I know the mastery system is a work in progress, so maybe something like this will come in the future. Gimme a like if you guys agree!
Hi Everyone. Sorry for the radio silence on this topic. We’ve been working with Oktagon to get a blog post written up real quick, and the whole process from conception to finalization has been a flurry of activity.
You can check out the announcement of the blog post HERE
I’m a little confused. As a level 41 player who levelled up before the update, Oktagon have chosen to give me less rewards than a player who levels up to level 41 now. That decision sucks, but at least it’s spelled out clearly in the update, so I can see clearly see the contempt they have for me as a veteran player.
However, as I understand it, there is a second issue, which is that a new player who goes on to master as many cards as I have mastered now will end up with more XP then me and reach a higher level which is impossible for me to attain. This decision also sucks, but I don’t see anything about it written in this update?
