So, in our Slack someone came to the idea to compare the player level with the mastery. It looks like
Level 0-10 bronze
Level 10-20 silver
Level 20-30 gold
Level 30-xx plat
Looking at it this way, it’s another reason to add a mastery tier above platinum, since several players are above level 40 - I know about half a dozen lvl 41 and one 42 player. What do you guys think? What are your stats? And how much does the next level cost for you? If you leveled up since the update, what were the rewards? Since the devs didn’t give us a list, some players already started one - one that has a lot of holes in it.
Will the matchmaking likely take the player levels into account in the future? This could directly interfere with the idea to promote card mastery. Might we be able to access player profiles of our opponents before we start a match?
You can already check other player’s profiles, not only the ones in your own coalition. And I agree with MBurn… please give us some more info. What are the rewards for player mastery, how many XP do cards of each rarity require, how much XP do you get for which event and why is there a difference, etc.
I was certainly expecting another tier to be added above platinum, given the shiny new icon which appeared in the blog post when the player profile was announced:
The idea overall is pretty cool, however also humbling. For as long as I’ve played this game, I thought my overall level would be higher than 35…I guess I should branch out more
You can tap your opponent’s name before you face them in any PvP event and it will show their profile.
Mastery seems completely unchanged, they just added a numerical value to card xp.
To elaborate, it took me 5 games (I think) of NoP giving my unmastered cards 20 xp each (confirmed) to master a previously unused common card. Once it was mastered I gained 2 mastery in it’s respective color. I also had a brand new MP in that deck that seemed to get about 1/20 of a level for each game of NoP. It seems as though they only changed it so that we can see how much experience a card earns per game and also how much experience certain games give. Story mode chapter 1 only gives a card 2 xp, while TG gives 6 xp, and pvp events with charges give 20 xp.
Just looking at he numbers I’ve seen floating around, it seems older players get punished HARD for msering their cards.
I’ve seen people with over 2k mastered cards hang at around lvl 41-42.
I got 36 with 700 mastered cards, I can easily get 200 xp per match from grinding 10 cards in a deck.
Point is; once I master another 1000 cards, I will be a LOT higher than them in lvl, meaning they will NEVER reach as high levels as those with fewer cards mastered, as they don’t have anymore cards they can master.
Assuming I only get 50 xp per card I master from zero to max (I get a LOT more in reality), that is still around 75.000 potential xp, which will obviously give waaay more than lvl 41/42, considering each level is only around 6.5k xp at those levels
@IM_CARLOS - I have not mastered more than 1794 cards and I’m also at level 42 (and about 20% of the way to level 43). So I agree with @Thuran that something seem odd.
Could it be that one or more sets have not been converted to the new system?
or do some sets count less than others?
I’m at 42 now. I’ve got a player that is 42 as well - with more cards mastered in every rarity, and more mastery points in every color he has less xp than I do. Likely solution? I’ve got all my non mastered cards at least partly mastered, those XP should be taken into account as well.
Cards that are unmastered with partial XP in them absolutely count towards your level. I still don’t think this would be enough to make up for the perceived discrepancies.
Assuming each card “holds” 200 xp at mastered (in reality mythics hold a LOT more), thats 140.000 xp, assuming no other cards have any xp in them.
37-38, which I’m working on right now, requires 4500 xp.
Do you think the amount of xp required to lvl 1 to 36, if you make a new account, is 140.000 xp?
That means each level averages 3888 xp, but we know the max is 4500, and that lvl 36-> 37 was 4000xp, so for it to happen, we must assume lvl 1-2 is close to 4000xp?
Actually we don’t need to guess or assume; the screenshot above says lvl 16-17 is only 1000xp
Its worse for people with almost all cards mastered, the amount of potential xp they have been denied is nothing short of staggering!
While it’s only a number to which I have no information on what it even means, player level may be the last hoorah for me. Mastering cards by playing them and testing has always been one of my favorite things. So seeing that I’m at 2319/2353 mastered and the same level as most, with no possible way to increase my level will leave me behind and pretty much kill my motivation to continue.
I hope this is retroactively corrected and quickly.
