His power concepts are cool, just not enough payoff there. The “pre-release” version of the powers had borderline okay utility, but, even those didn’t appear great. It’s really hard to see how his power levels got dropped pre-release… easily the worst new character released since Beast.
Perhaps most disappointing is having a character based around super speed who plays so very slowly.
I’d like to see him get a countdown tile ability that while it’s active only he can do moves (on both sides, so in PvP then the opposing Quicksilver could move to, passive basically). I feel like that would be the best way to use his blue and capture what Quicksilver really is. There’s not reason why all the other characters move at the same speed as Quicksilver, and locking a Team-Up tile doesn’t really make me feel like he’s moving super fast. You can still have his other abilities tie into this Quicksilver only countdown tile too. My thoughts.
I have Blue and Green covers (1 each) and using him the in Essential nodes in R&G PvE he his actually more of a hindrance than a help. Since the goons don’t move the board, locking the teamups only impedes my ability to manipulate the board, which given how little damage he does with it (on the off chance it actually fires) he is a net-negative to my team. Not loving him so far…
He really is bad. The characters getting buffs on Friday are the only 3* I don’t have, so I can’t really speak to how he compares. . . but playing the fully covered loaner in the PvE he was terrible. Even having four covers, using him in the essential nodes has made for the hardest goon fights I’ve had in a long while. Why? Because he locks random tiles, which shuts down the board, making it harder for me to get anything done. But no less hard for the goons who just sit there watching their countdowns go off!
You are 100% correct. It’s time to end winfinite once and for all. MQ, MMN, PX, and now QS all have been affected because of that combo. They need to change MQ blue or MMN purple. Afterwards, they need to fix the other three characters not changed back to their original ability sets as they would be if the combo did not exist..
How many more characters that they spent so much time creating and balancing, how much more time and effort, and how many more times must players feel left down simply because the winfinite combo has not been completely resolved?
I think his blurred tiles should be a new type of locked tiles that the owner of the tile can move but the enemy can’t. (To make it more fun, the owner doesn’t destroy the blurred locked tile on swap, and it generates AP, which currently can only be TU AP so not abusive) This way the mechanic can deter opponents without hindering yourself, and you can move tiles around without destroying your blurred tiles and lose your AP reduction bonuses. Since IW can pop bubbles but not blurred tiles, there is probably already some sort of distinction between different lock tiles.
I think a lot of characters have what is designated as a strong skill and a weak skill (for example Punisher black is probably a weak skill, while red is probably a strong skill). It almost seems like Quicksilver’s blue is designated as the strong skill (2/3 damage of Kamala’s green, no AP cost but requires 5 blue matches). The problem is that his other skills rely on him NOT making the 5th match, so his kit is sort of pick one or the other, can’t have both. On top of that the locked tiles block your matching, and having them on board slows your gameplay.
I like that devs are trying to create characters that use new mechanics, but locked tiles is not a helpful mechanic as it is.
At least he is not as bad as Beast when he first came out. This just means I don’t have to invest any ISO into him. Look on the bright side when you face him in PVP just let the AI match 2 blue while you match other colors. You make the 3rd match for the damage, or you use his other abilities at lower cost. He will be fast when playing against himself other than that, just avoid blue matches.
For a character as rushed as he seems he is slow as shit. His powers make no sense whatsoever. Even after his passive blue is built up he’s still too slow and weak to make any sort of impact. He is officially replacing beast as the worst 3
There’s probably no safe way to buff a character at short-notice, but I’ll upvote anyway as he certainly a] terribly weak and b] deeply unfun to play with/against due to his slow animation and random locking.
If it were simply a case of shuffling numbers…
Health
Increase from 6,800 to Psylocke-level 8,670 - like her he was conceptually envisaged as a rapid-fire glass-cannon, but has similarly panned out as having a lengthy lead-time on making any impact.
Nothing about Quicksilver warrants a “health penalty”, as described in the preview notes.
Idle Hands
Return to 9 AP.
Increase the maximum damage 15% in line with Blade (closest equivalent with an 8 cost skill that steals 3 AP every turn).
Flatten out the ridiculous damage curve, so at max. level 3 covers deals 900+ rather than shameful 348.
Supersonic
Not really sold on this being practical or commensurate with effort, but for now leave the numbers alone.
Fists of Fury
Return to 9 AP.
Increase the maximum damage 15% to keep it ahead of Idle Hands, in recognition of it’s inferior secondary effect.
Flatten out the ridiculous damage curve, so at max. level 3 covers deals 1,000+ rather than measly 435.
I posted this in the Character discussion as well, but I feel like the key thing is that he is worked around his blue, which I’m fine with but it doesn’t seem like it’s Quicksilver to me. So I didn’t change the damage numbers on any of the abilities, but these are my thoughts on how the blue SHOULD feel and tweaked the other two abilities to make them seem more like him.
Idle Hands - 9

Quicksilver shows his true speed and takes control of the battlefield. Quicksilver places a Countdown tile that decreases Black and Green abilities by 1 AP and only Quicksilver can move. Level Upgrades
Level 2: Creates a 2 turn Countdown
Level 3: Decreases Black and Green abilities by 2 AP
Level 4: AP increases to 7 Blue. Creates a 3 turn Countdown.
Level 5: Destroys 1 Red, Purple and Yellow AP from each team.
Fists of Fury - 9
AP
Quicksilver grabs his enemy and pummels them with a furious blur of punches. Creates 1 random Critical tile. Costs 1 AP less for every Locked tile on the board (minimum 6 AP). Level Upgrades
I agree with this, but at what point are you just buffing up stats vs. fixing the character? It’s obvious that Quicksilver is nowhere in line with what he should be doing thematically and just feels like there was no thought put into him. What characters do you think they should be fixing? I’m going to limit this to just 3*'s as the 4* realm they just need to figure out what they are doing there.
In my opinion, fixing does not equal buffing up to keep up with the power creep. Those stats are easy to change across the board.
I don’t deny Bagsilver needs a buff. But he needs to get in line.
It’s just when they “buffed” Ragnarok I feel like they did it just for $$$$ so I stand by them fixing old characters before moving onto new characters.
Ragnarok wasn’t buffed at all.
We’re still waiting on lots of heroes to get buffed. And some need to be buffed properly.
D3 knows what they’re doing - vomiting out characters so fast only a % of them gets balanced.
I’ll agree that Ragnarok definitely needs fixed. His abilities just aren’t good, and while I think he should use Charge tiles, all of his abilities are just a mess and the Charge tiles are making his AP costs just too much.
The funny part is if they don’'t start balancing characters better, we’re not just in danger of getting more characters in the bag family, they’re in danger of releasing a new God Tier character since Xforce is dethroned
We can take a break, step off the PVE hamster wheel, save the 600 hp, and still rest easy knowing that we don’t miss a thing by not having Pietro Bagsimoff on our rosters
