Starlord vs. Pun-Max

Just curious what the forum thought…

I currently have a level 250 Starlord (5/3/4) and a level 70 Punisher (MAX) (3/5/5). I also have two expiring SL covers (Purples) that will vanish in about 5 days. ISO reserves are low at only about 60k (I maxed out 4* Cyc yesterday). I have 121 CP banked with the thought to outright purchase my last SL cover.

Since his rework, SL has gotten much better, but would I still get much use out of him other than niche use vs. Countdowns/Special tile spammers and when he’s boosted? Would focusing on leveling 4 Pun be the better option and cash in my 6 additional Legendary pulls?*

My current 4* champs are in order of champing: 4hor, Thing, IMHB, Cho, IW, Bucky, Peggy, Cyclops.
Others at or near max covers: SL (12 covers, 250), WarMachine (11 covers, 229), Ghost Rider (11 covers, 188), Prof X (13 covers, 175 soft cap for Winfinite), Spider Gwen (12 covers, 150), Venom (12 covers, 150), Teen Jean (11 covers, 150), Fury (11 covers, 150), Quake (11 covers, 150), XFW (11 covers, 131), Elektra (12 covers, 127), Kingpin (12 covers, 70).

Everyone else is 10 covers or below including Iceman (9 covers 1/4/4), XFDP (9 covers 3/5/1), and Red Hulk (4 covers 1/1/2).

While the reworked SL is nice, I wouldn’t burn CP to buy his last cover just for two expiring covers.

I would suggest banking any LTs/CP you get until you can build up an ISO reserve. I try to bank at least 350K before I open any LTs. For example, I have 600K banked right now while I wait for Thanos to get put into Latest. I will then open latest until I get a new project to work on.

Thanks for the advice. I recently had about 350k iso but dumped it into getting 4* Cyc up to 270. Our rosters are in far different places though as you’re going into 5* transition.

The problem I’m running into is that I don’t always have a boosted 4* champ for PvP and that makes the grind up to 900 a pretty slow slog. When 4hor, Thing, Peggy, etc are boosted, I’m usually running IM40 with them and not looking back; getting to 900 is a breeze. With non-boosted champs, punching my way through 30pt fights is a much slower process and invites more frequent retaliations.

While 900 is a personal goal, it’s also an alliance minimum so we hit Top50 PvP ranking.

SL doesn’t help me too much in this regard, but Pun might.

I absolutely love SL. Since his rework, he’s amazing. I use him daily, boosted or not, and have no regrets champing him. He’s probably my favourite PVE character now to play with, watching his countdowns fill the board.

That being said, I’m primarily PVE, where SL is a beast. I have never used him in PVP, and probably won’t, because his passive is key. if you’re not playing much PVE, and hoping to help get to 900 points in PVP, PunMAX will be more useful..

When boosted in pvp, Starlord can be fantastic - he was boosted alongside Cyclops a while back, and I ended up using Starlord’s red over Cyclops’.

Punisher is a freaking monster boosted though.

As fate would have it, I pulled a Red StarLord from the Crash token this morning. Thank god I waited!

… now I just have to worry about ISO. /sigh.
