I can’t tell if this is meant to be a joke character or not.
Yeah, I’m also not sure if we’re capping off a whole month of April Fool characters or it’s simply coincidence.
Hopefully we get back to normal characters soon, or even a nice theme run - Hydra certainly went well - just so long as that theme isn’t yet more symbiotes or Spider-Men.
It seems sort of funny in a game about superheroes and villains to think of “normal characters”. What do they even look like?!?!?

From my perspective “normal” would simply mean “meeting expectations”.
In a game revolving around superheroes and villains meeting expectations will mean different things for different people.
For me it means characters I know and follow, or would want to know and follow. From look to powers to backstory. There is something heroic involved. Something resembling our world but people stand up and make things better with extraordinary… Something.
Fantomex, Night Thrasher, The Shroud, a theme revolving around the New Warriors, would all get me excited… or even the GLA because at least then I’d feel like I’m in on the joke…But these characters might leave others scratching their heads.
(The are others of course but I tried to stick to things that might not be held for some kind of copyright/trademark issue)
Not every character will be targeted at me personally, and I don’t expect them to…
Right now though I’m looking at a run of characters where the only standout I have any interest in looking at is a 2* horse.
Green falcon just looks silly.
Stitch’s Australian cousin might be ok because of dropping when a joke is expected, but he’s surrounded by other things that also look like jokes.
A horse…I don’t like animal characters but the abilities work for dead pool daily, I guess.
There are others but I can’t be bothered to remember them because they just aren’t memorable.
Now this thing.
If this is what you enjoy, have fun, congrats, I’m happy for you… I just don’t get it.
And I’m not quitting or anything like that, but being heckled about what normal means deserves a response.
Anyway…I still don’t know if this is meant as a joke or a serious character that people actually follow in an ongoing comic somewhere.

Sorry I was just joking around. Not targeting anyone.
My underlying thought is that Hydra was a nice clump of characters who were well known and missing from the game. Almost everyone left to add is someone you barely know or that are half remembered 90s folks or something and not a nice group.
Frankencastle was an arc of Punisher from….I think the early 00s, or late 90s. I get that a lot of people won’t care about him but I loved that story for being so crazy.
I think we all agree that the devs keep pulling out weirdos but there are 398 characters and not very many options to add over however long this game goes on that aren’t pretty deep cuts or strange variants.
Maybe some X-folks.

I suppose it is a mixture of the original intent of the creator and how they have been portrayed in print or film etc.
Take Night Thrasher for example - the New Warriors were created as part of a marketing research campaign and so “skateboarding” was the basis of his existence. 80s/90s so no brainer. I always found that embarrassing and that he was a joke. Dazzler was created for much the same reason, disco was popular and Marvel hoped to cash in on that with a record and movie.
Then you have what seem to be obvious joke characters like Howard the Duck who were in fact created as a completely serious outlet for their creator. The Duck was a very important think to Steve Gerber and he voiced a LOT of issues through him (too bad the movie was embarrassing).
I think probably the problem with someone like The Punisher is that they are a character that we can’t really have fun with. Although that said there is a Punisher/Power Girl story coming out I think? By Gail Simeone so could be anything! Anyway my point is that Punisher has this perception that he must always be grim n gritty so anything stupid is a bad thing. I haven’t read the story assuming there is one about this Punisher so I can’t tell you what the intent was but I can understand why most people wouldn’t think it fits a preconceived notion. But then we got Thor, the Thunder Frog and that story wasn’t goofy or silly at all, it even set up Thor being involved in the Mutant Massacre…
We could probably do with some more releases that skew towards more “normal” expectations but I think much like Night Thrasher who I abhor but most love, there might be more room for more wacky stuff which actually was meant as serious.

From my perspective Frankencastle is LONG overdue and should’ve been in the game years ago. This was a really fun storyline in the comics that was almost universally hated, but I loved it.

If you followed comics at all during this time you were exposed to the debate over the arc. I’d much rather have this version than the Bernthal version, who is really just the 3
anyway.
There are plenty of “regular” characters we haven’t yet had. I could easily make a LONG list but I’m not sure anybody wants that. Comic book fans are a weird bunch and the 90s where it seems a large bunch of players on here draw their love from was not exactly a golden era but people love that stuff! There will be people out there who think that Triathlon and Silver Claw are beloved Avengers or why don’t we have Maggot or X-Man? If the Devs are gonna keep on down the wacky animal path though then I demand the Beasts dog Sassafras! Make it happen, Devs!
