As an update, this continues to be an intermittent problem. I can log on and only see current team up requests and then I log on later and all the chat is back. Just updated to R280 and the chat is currently missing.
I’ve been having the same issues and just now today I attempted sending a message there only to have the game not allow me to do so despite me being on R280 as well. And I’m on an iPhone 12 so different than OP’s.
