Team machine

There is a key that defines all of the tiers next to the tier filter. I went back and forth about a 5th tier because there really are some characters who are more useless than others, but ultimately, useless is useless regardless of the degree of it (most of the game is C tier). Examples can be seen in the app, I have every character ranked under the WB tiers. So the filter will show you them, as well as the icon on the right of the character card.

As for mode (PvP, PvE etc.) I originally had this on every character and decided it made more sense to move it to teams, because the synergy is ultimately what shapes everything, no mode is 1v1.

Most of the game is actually, secretly B tier. You just haven’t ascended them and levelled them up high enough yet!

This is exactly why I wanted the community tiers, you don’t have to take my word for it. Most of what I’ve seen you discuss is that their value is only in god boosted health and match damage, if their abilities are always useless, then I personally would call that a C.

This of course is subjective, you feel about the character however you feel and based off of different things. I tried to define them based off fact, but the subjectiveness will never go away, especially with so many different use cases and variables.

My tiers and score aren’t perfect either, once I ascened everyone and spend ample time finding their partners, maybe a couple move to B, but it won’t be based off only boosted health and match damage for me personally. And if I see something I feel makes more sense in tier definitions, Im open to changing it, but this is what we got.

I agree with this, and there are definitely some 672s that are useless at 672. But as I 550 more ascended characters (right now I’m at about 40% of the 3:star: tier), I’m finding that most of them are pretty good!

One of things about community tiers is that it’s hard to know what cross section of players you are getting. On this Forum for example 90% of the posters (or higher) are true end game players in/at 550.

From EB’s perspective for example he NEVER has to face a team that’s higher level than him (baring a match against maxed 6s). He’s basically running his 672s against other same or lesser teams.

But players moving through the 2 - 4 star PvP and even early 5s champs are always facing higher level teams and must punch up because that’s what they queue. I basically never have the highest level characters in any PvP match up and that’s probably true for most players that aren’t at the 550 end game.

So EB’s perspective of tiers is going to be quite different than other players.

Would be interesting if players could enter their highest level roster character when doing tier ranking to see how much it differs based on where your roster level is.

KGB

This is also problematic in a different way than what you’re describing.

These players are NOT “550” players. Most players here have a few of the very best, strongest characters at 550, and almost nothing else of note on their roster. So when someone says so-and-so is D tier, they’re comparing an unascended or base level version of a character to a fully maxed out 550.

So, like, of course they think that guy is trash. Juggernaut or Nova or whoever would also be trash if you hadn’t put any levels on them!

Anyway, if what you want is the community’s tier rankings, then letting the community rank characters will get you that! And there’s certainly some value to that – the community rankings will show you who’s used in PvP and PvE, even if there are better characters out there.

There’s not really a good way to do true rankings anyway since nobody has all the characters maxed out. For some characters, literally nobody has them maxed out at all!

I know sometimes it depends on who you are running a certain character with, but are there suggested builds in here?

Whenever I get enough shards to fully cover a 5* I like to assign their 5/5/3 or whatever so they’ll always have the right allotment for their powers, even though I can’t fully level them with ISO yet.

There is a suggested build section in each card, however I have not filled them out yet or determined if that should also be filed out by the community. I think most characters are 1 build only, but there are a few out there i definitely ran different from others.

I will start to fill them out, bake em in, and others can weigh in on the community aspect of it.

Another thing I could use some help with, is if some people wanted to write some bullet points for the New to MPQ section, dropem here and it will move them in.

I considered maybe breaking it down by what their objective is or what type of player they are, but I’ll take anything since I really just don’t want to write that part anymore.

“Best builds” used to be really easy to figure out but it’s become increasingly difficult to say a given character has any “best” build at all.

Demiurge loved to give characters two good powers and one that was obviously useless trash. The newer designers are making things MUCH more interesting, and there are even situations where it makes sense to have 4 in two powers! I find myself changing characters around pretty much constantly.

Have you seen seen ascended horse? When you see one, go look at his yellow. It’s so ridiculous it could only look like there is no way they want you to put points in yellow, and he’s not the only one.

That said, yes, there are some characters out there with multiple builds, and i have lots with 445, hence why I think community builds is nice… but not the part where I need to store and share more data.

UPDATES! Live now

The community character rankings are now saved and filterable by everyone. It even shows how many people have ranked them. These are only as useful as people have filled out the ranks, so try to rank them, or its not much use, the more votes, the better. Though I think some people may be trolling as Abigail is ranked B with 13 votes… maybe its me.

I went ahead and added the ability to share teams and vote for them! So, whenever you create a team you have the ability to upload it and people can like them. You can also DL teams from the community section. I will add more features depending on how much it actually gets used.

My only regret is I can only heart this update once.

But you can also heart aaaall the teams you want that get shared!

In a shameless attempt to get more people in to the app, I added a feature I think makes sense to actually track somewhere.

After doing the voting for teams, I thought it might be a neat idea to have a home for new character requests and some voting history.

I’m not delusional that this will actually get traction, but seemed worth the shot. It would be easy for @TheMigz @Jeto etc. to see who is highly desired, if it does get traction. Either way, I’llleave it up and see.

I added a variant of Remy (The Witness) Ive never heard if, but sounds awesome (and Gambit needs some serious love).

Alrighty!

Version 2.0 is up w/ some sizable updates. I added the puzzle mode because it seemed to have a decent amount of interest. Currently it contains info mostly ripped from the Reddit someone shared (Blue? Sorry, I forgot who) but it is very easily updated.

I might do a tutorial video soon:

For anyone interested in how it works:

TLDR: Be understanding, it’s a very complicated system trying to calculate the impossible without actually playing the game. Some of it is actually quite good and accurate, some of it still needs quite a bit of work. One of the main problems is actually starting AP, most of its calculations are pretty decent until starting AP jumps in and kills everything. It took me a min to catch that, which is what spawned “Opening Threat”.

RAW DATA

  • Character data
    • Base stats: health, match damage, level, rarity.
    • Ability data: AP cost, damage, healing, tile creation/destruction, stun, AP generation, passives, etc.
    • This is the raw source everything else builds from.
  • Support Data
    • All data logged in the support cards

OWNER DATA

  • Tags
    • Describe specific mechanics an ability has. Examples: Board Destruction, Generate Green AP, Create Strike Tiles, Stun, Multi-Hit, Heal, Fortify.
  • Roles
    • Higher-level description of what the character is good at (what does the character specialize in / why would you typically play them). Examples: AP Battery, Stunner, Special Tile Counter, F Your Board.
    • Can be Primary or Secondary.
  • Character Tiers
    • S = Likely meta or out of balance. Top tier at 1 or more things.
    • A = Good at 1 or more things. Can hang without being OP.
    • B = Niche / Team Specific. Can be very useful in the right team, matchup, role, or strategy. Usually needs strong synergy, a specific purpose, or a stronger carry.
    • C = Generally underperforms compared with current alternatives. May still have isolated uses when boosted, but likely needs a rework or buff.
  • Ability Tiers (invisible)
    • 1 = strong. Main reason to use the character.
    • 2 = useful. Worth AP if you don’t have better.
    • 3 = weak. Likely not worth the AP, only use if not other outlet.
    • Helps determine which mechanics matter most when judging the character.
    • Stops a bad or minor ability from getting the same importance as their defining power.

METADATA (adds context that the other data cannot explain well)

  • Offers — what this character provides to teammates.
  • Wants — what helps this character perform better.
  • Counters — what mechanics/enemies they are good against.
  • Vulnerabilities — what hurts them.
  • Conflicts — teammates/mechanics that work poorly with them.
  • Can also contain character-specific rules (owner training).

CALCULATED DATA

  • Friends
    • Compares one character’s Offers against another character’s Wants.
    • Also considers:
      • roles,
      • tags,
      • ability tiers,
      • timing,
      • opening effects,
      • special character-specific metadata.
  • Strengths & Weaknesses
    • Looks at the whole team together.
    • Uses each member’s abilities, roles, tags, and relationship metadata.
    • Strengths show mechanics the team does well.
    • Weaknesses show missing tools, conflicts, poor coverage, or things the team struggles against.
  • Recommended Supports
    • Have their own effects, tiers, eligibility, starting AP, tile creation, buffs, etc.
    • Support logic checks:
      • who can equip them,
      • what they provide,
      • whether that helps a character’s abilities or role.
    • Buck can answer support-specific questions using the same support data.
  • Opening Threat
    • Calculated from things like start-of-battle effects, early passive pressure, starting AP, immediate SAP tiles, fast damage/control, and other opening mechanics.
    • So metadata can heavily influence it, but the score itself is separate.
  • Counter Ready / Readiness (WIP)
    • Calculated from how quickly and reliably a character can actually execute the relevant counter.
    • Considers things like AP cost, whether the counter is passive, starting AP/supports, opening setup, and whether the needed mechanic is realistically available.
    • Again, metadata helps describe the counter relationship, but Readiness is the calculated score.
  • Combat Loop (WIP)
    • Likelihood the characters abilities pickup and maintain off of each other

THE BRAIN

  • Buck
    • Data parser, sits on top of all the other systems above pulling data to (try to) answer questions.
    • Is NOT Ai or connected to the internet. Learns with every questions fed to it (your questions are not directly teaching it unless baked in by the owner).
    • It will get smarter over time, but be understanding of its limits and consider how you ask your questions.
  • Purpose (this is important): A great many questions can be answered by manually filtering the data above, EX: who makes strike tiles, with what color at what cost etc. Buck however can tell you, who makes strike tiles in bulk VS one large strike tile.

Wow, this stuff is waaaay above my head, but I’m definitely impressed at how much work you’ve put into this. Massive round of applause @WhiteBomber

Do brains count as Entrails?

If they do I know a certain forumite who would be incredibly flattered that you’ve named your big brain calculator after him (at least in essence)
